Rachelle Sayers
Head Coach
Sayers enters her sixth season in 2016-17, after leading the Saints to their third NAIA Nationals appearance in her first five seasons. Sayers has a career record of 88-59 (.599) and guided the Saints to a 22-9 record in 2015-16, including an 11-0 start. The Saints earned wins over top-five programs and earned a trip to face Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in the NAIA first-round where they fell 51-44 in the first round. Despite the disappointing end to the season, Carroll put together an impressive campaign including a No. 1 statistical finish in Total Rebound Defense/Game, a third-place ranking in Rebound Margin and a fifth-place ranking in Scoring Defense. The Saints finished 24th in the final NAIA rankings and senior point guard Katie Estey was named to the NAIA All-American Third-Team and sophomore center Cassidy Hashley received an All-American Honorable Mention nod. The NAIA Championship trip was the second consecutive for the Saints. After an 18-11 campaign in 2014-15, the Saints made a trek to Independence to face Concordia (Calif.) in the NAIA First-Round where they fell 59-48. Carroll finished 24th in the final NAIA rankings. In 2013, the Fighting Saints advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament. Carroll finished the season with a 21-10 record including a 13-3 Frontier Conference Record, good for second in the conference behind Westminster College. Carroll took advantage of a true home-court advantage winning 11 of their 12 contests at the Carroll PE Center. By virtue of their successful play both in the Frontier Conference and the postseason, Carroll finished the season ranked #21 in the final NAIA rankings. Torrie Cahill was also named to the NAIA All-American Third-Team. Prior to her arrival at Carroll in May of 2011, Rachelle spent the previous 14 seasons at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, including the last five as the associate head coach. During her time at Weber State the Wildcats won a pair of Big Sky regular season titles and two Conference Tournament Championships to earn two trips to the NCAA National Tournament. As an assistant coach with the Wildcats, Rachelle oversaw recruiting as perimeter player development. Rachelle was a four-year standout at Weber State and a two-year starter from 1993-96, playing for Coach Carla Taylor. She led the Wildcats in scoring her junior year with 14.9 points per game and was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team. The second leading scorer her senior year (11.8 ppg), she helped lead the Wildcats to a second place finish at the Big Sky Championship and earned All-Conference honors for the second straight season. Rachelle is currently the 14th all-time leading scorer in Wildcat history with 1,009 career points. She ranks fifth in Weber State history in career three-pointers made with 149 and is ninth in school history in three-point percentage at .323. Rachelle was also a Big Sky Academic All-Conference selection for two years and the WSU team MVP in 1995. Rachelle is a native of Absarokee, Montana. She graduated from Weber State in 1997 with a degree in English and in 2006 with a masters degree in Business Administration from Regis University. Rachelle is married to Keith Sayers and together they are the proud parents of two daughters Keetyn and Taylor and twin boys, Reddic and Rieker.
