Maccarone Highlights 3 NFCA All-Region Selections (Sophia Fike, 2024; Katie Scolese, 2024, Sophia Colangelo, 2025) 2 LC Rookie of the Year (Mia Szap, 2024, Sophia Colangelo, 2025) 11 All-Landmark selections (5 1st Team, 2 2nd Team, 4 HM) 9 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District selections Sophie Maccarone was named the first full-time head coach of the Catholic softball program effective July 17, 2023.  Maccorone recently finished her second season as the head coach of Catholic softball and built off a strong first season with the first 30 win season in program history, finishing 31-12 and making it to the Landmark Conference championship series. The Cardinals ended the regular season by sweeping No. 13 Moravian for the first time in program history to lock up the number two seed in the conference tournament. Catholic knocked off third-seeded Susquehanna to advance to the championship before dropping both games to the top seeded Greyhounds. The Cardinals had a program record seven players make the All-Landmark Team including the conference Rookie of the Year Sophia Colangelo. The 2024 season proved to be a massive success as the Cardinals matched the program records for wins in a season with 28. Maccarone's team finished 10-6 in the Landmark Conference, earning the #2 seed in the Landmark Tournament. The Cardinals defeated #3 Juniata in the opening game before falling to #1 Moravian and #5 Lycoming. Maccarone saw a pair of Cardinals earn All-Region honors while four student-athletes were represented on All-Landmark teams.  Maccarone ('21) is a graduate of Catholic University and a former four-year member of the softball program. Maccarone spent 2022-23 as the program's Graduate Assistant Coach, helping the team to a 23-17 record. The Cardinals reached the Landmark Conference Tournament as the number three seed after sweeping Juniata in the final doubleheader of the regular season. A former outfielder herself, Maccarone helped oversee a group that had all three starters earn All-Landmark honors in 2023. Catholic had a program-record seven players named to the All-Landmark Conference Teams in 2023. A Haddonfield, N.J. native, Maccarone appeared in 77 games as a player for Catholic from 2018-2021 with two of her seasons shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. At Haddonfield Memorial, she was a standout in three sports: softball, soccer, and basketball, serving as a team captain in each sport. Aside from her work at Catholic, Maccarone has served as the Head Softball Instructor, Softball Coordinator, and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Bradley Baseball Academia in Reston, Va., an Operations Event Staff member for the D.C. United, and as a Graduate Marketing Intern in the American University Athletic Department.

Allie Lajeunesse

Assistant Coach

Lajeunesse joins the Catholic coaching staff for her first season in 2024 after a very successful playing career in the Cardinals red. Lajeunesse played four years at Catholic, with her senior campaign coming while head coach Sophie Maccarone was on staff as an assistant coach. She also shared the dugout with Maccarone during the three years prior as a teammate. The right-hander from Latham, N.Y., featured in an impressive 78 games, making 50 starts.She logged 118.2 career innings in the circle, pitching to a 2.48 career ERA in 45 appearances. When she was not in the circle, she spent the majority of her time at first base and was a formidable threat with the bat, maintaining a .277 career batting average.

Lauren Keys

Assistant Coach

Lauren Keys joins the Catholic softball program in the summer of 2025 as the graduate assistant coach.  Keys, a 2025 graduate of the University of Rochester comes to Catholic after a stellar career in the circle.  The Leesburg, Va. native compiled a record of 31-13 at Rochester, tossing 264.0 innings with a 2.94 ERA. Keys struck out 157 batters during her career. She posted a 13-1 record with a 2.02 ERA in a breakout 2024 season.  Overall, Keys appeared in 103 career games, hitting .164 in 87 at-bats. She drove in 14 runs and laced three doubles during her career at the plate.

Morgan Zamora

Assistant Coach

Zamora joins the Catholic coaching staff for her first season in 2024 after a successful playing career at two high-major DI programs. The infielder played three seasons in her home state at UC Berkeley where she appeared in 33 games. Competing in the Pac-12, what is widely recognized as one of the top softball conference in the country, Zamora made 16 starts her junior season, accumulating a .268 batting. She transferred to Georgetown for her senior season where she appeared in 48 games, tallying 34 hits and blasting five home runs. She drove in 26 runs and scored 24 runs for the Hoyas. Zamora also boasts an impressive high school career at Cajon where she was a four-year starter and a two-time First-Team All-Citrus Belt League Selection. She was a member of the Varsity .300 Club from her sophomore to her senior seasons while also being honored as the District 9 Female Athlete of the Year during her sophomore campaign and earning the Outstanding Athlete Award during her senior year. She was a two-time team MVP at Cajon and while playing her club ball for Firecracker Blanco, placed in the top five at TC/USA Nationals in 2016.
