Cedarville University Men's Tennis

Karl Monson has been the men’s tennis head coach at Cedarville University since the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He is just the fourth head coach in the modern era of Yellow Jacket tennis which spans more than 60 years. Monson has guided the men to back-to-back 12-win seasons including a berth in the 2025 G-MAC Tournament. This is the first head coaching position for Monson, who possesses extensive experience as a tennis club manager and teaching professional. During his career he has developed multiple section and nationally-ranked players to prepare them for the collegiate level. Monson came to the University after most recently serving as manager and tennis professional at the Rochester Tennis Connection in Minnesota from 2013-23. He previously held positions as tennis professional and adult coordinator at the Rochester Athletic Club (2006-13); adult competition specialist and director at the United States Tennis Association (2004-06) in Bloomington, Minn.; and YMCA head tennis professional (1999-2004) in Eau Claire, Wis. Monson is a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional and was tabbed the 2022 USTA Northern Section Tennis Professional of the Year. Monson earned a degree in exercise science from Creighton University in 1993. He graduated with the most singles and doubles wins in men’s tennis program history for the Division I Bluejays. Karl and his wife, Kady, who is his assistant coach, have five children and reside in Fairborn. Their oldest child, Faith, is a senior tennis player for the Lady Jackets.

Kady Monson has been the Cedarville University tennis assistant coach beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. She works alongside her husband, Karl, who serves as the head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs. Kady possesses more than 25 years of tennis experience as a teaching professional, instructor, and coach. She also spent more than two decades in middle school and high school classrooms as a mathematics teacher.  Prior to coming to Cedarville she was a teacher and co-ed varsity head tennis coach at Schaeffer Academy in Rochester, Minn. from 2012 through 2023. Monson was a four-year letter winner during her collegiate career at Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire from 1993 through 1996 where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She paced the Blugolds to four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships which featured her winning three league singles titles and two doubles crowns. UW-Eau Claire advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships each year. Monson was ranked as high as No. 32 nationally in singles and No. 16 in doubles. The Monsons have five children and reside in Fairborn. Their oldest child, Faith, is a senior tennis player for the Lady Jackets.
