Adam Lechtenberg

Head Coach

Bio Adam Lechtenberg was named (read more) the 15th head coach in the history of the CCSU football program on January 10, 2023. He returned to New Britain where he spent two seasons (2010 and 2011) as the co-offensive coordinator, helping the Blue Devils to the 2010 NEC Championship. Lechtenberg graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS in Agribusiness in 2003. He earned a Masters’ Degree from TCU in 2010. He and his wife Kristy, a graduate of CCSU, have a daughter, Maddie. AT CCSU • Led the Blue Devils to consecutive FCS Championship appearances for the first-time in program history in 2024 and 2025 • Named the 2025 NEC Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Devils to eight regular season wins and won the NEC championship outright at 6-1 • Named the NEC Coach of the Year following the 2024 season, leading the Blue Devils to the NEC Championship after being predicted to finish last in the league • Eddie Robinson Award Finalist for FCS National Coach of the Year in 2024 and 2025 • Under his tutelage the Blue Devils have had eight All-New England Selections (four in 2025) and have had five players win NEC major awards • Earned first career head coaching win, 44-0, over AIC on September 2, 2023 • His first NEC win came October 21, 2023 at Wagner, 17-3 BEFORE CCSU University of Central Oklahoma (March 2022-January 2023) Co-Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach First winning season since 2018, with a first-year coaching staff Virginia Tech (2017-2021) Coached running backs and served as offensive recruiting coordinator in 2020-21 Recruited and coached Khalil Herbert, who averaged 7.7 yards per attempt in 2020 (a school-record) and was drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft Also recruited and coached Raheem Blackshear, who spent 2022 with the Carolina Panthers University of Tennessee-Martin (January 2016-March 2017) Passing game coordinator and wide receiver’s coach Finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-2 record University of Memphis (February 2012-January 2016) Director of player personnel and interim wide receiver’s coach Served as interim WR coach in 2015, helping the Tigers to a 9-3 record and a Birmingham Bowl berth 2014 squad won the AAC Championship and the Miami Beach Bowl, finishing 10-3 Helped produce NFL players Anthony Miller, Alan Cross, Mose Frazier and Tevin Jones Central Connecticut State University (January 2010-January 2012) Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Helped CCSU to the 2010 NEC Championship with a 7-1 league record Offense ranked in the top-third of FCS in eight or more offensive categories in each season Led the NEC in nine offensive categories in 2010 Served as recruiting coordinator, including signing all-time leading rusher Rob Hollomon Texas Christian University (July 2007-January 2010) Offensive graduate assistant coach, working with quarterbacks and offensive line Appeared in three bowl games during that time, and won the 2008 Mount West Conference title Truman State University (Spring 2007) Wayne State College (2005-07) Wide receivers coach and video coordinator

Abbott Burrell

Coach

Bio  Abbott Burrell joined the Central Connecticut State football coaching staff as an assistant coach in June 2019. He coaches the Blue Devils safeties and is the program's academic coordinator. Burrell earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Connecticut in 1990 and was a four-year letterwinner and team captain as a senior. He played professional football for the French Professional Football League while also working as an assistant defensive backs and receivers coach. AT CCSU   • Member of the coaching staff for the 2019, 2024 and 2025 NEC Championship Teams • Has coached Chris Jean to the 2025 FCS Football Central All-America Third Team and 2024 FCS Freshman All-America • Jean has also earned 2025 All-New England, a two-time All-NEC First Team selection and 2024 NEC Defensive Rookie of th Year • Coached the 2024 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, Kimal Clark, who was named FCS All-America and All-New England • Has coached eight All-Conference selections during his time with the Blue Devils, with four first-team selections in five seasons • First-team selections include Kimal Clark (2023, 20224), Chris Jean (2024) and Tajik Bagley (2019), with DJ Evilhomme (2019), Jahlil Brown (2021, 2022) and Jonathan Cabral-Martin (2022) earning Second Team Honors BEFORE CCSU Brown University (January 1998 - November 2018) Coached the defensive secondary, including AFCA First-Team All-American's in back-to-back seasons with AJ Cruz (2012) and Emory Polley (2013) Coached Associated Press All-America Third Team Jamie Gasparella, a defensive back, in 2005 Promoted to assistant head coach in 2002 and was part of three Ivy League Championship teams His 2001 secondary led the Ivy in pass defense Coached 18 All-Ivy League selections during his tenure with the Bears, 11 of them earning First-Team honors  Bethune-Cookman (July 1997 - January 1998) Assistant coach responsible for defensive backs, coaching Anthony Bass who spent two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings University of Pennsylvania (January 1997 -  July 1997) Spent the spring season at Penn Brown University (January 1994 - January 1997) Coached two seasons with the secondary and a season of outside linebackers during his first stint at Brown Wesleyan University (August 1992 - December 1993) Coached wide receivers and assisted on special teams

Caleb Gelsomino

Bio Caleb Gelsomino joined the CCSU football staff as the offensive coordinator in March 2023. He has made stops at Virginia Tech, Bridgewater State and made an FCS playoff appearance during his tenure at Sacred Heart.  He is also the Blue Devils quarterback coach. Gelsomino played two seasons at Bridgewater State, including an at-large bid to the CNAA Division III playoffs. He graduated from Bridgewater with a BS in Business Management in 2013. Gelsomino and his wife, Caley, have a son, Casey. BEFORE CCSU Bridgewater State University (2022-23) Co-Offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach Led the Blue Devils to back-to-back NEC Championships in 2024 and 2025 Oversaw all aspects of the offensive gameplan and handled in-game play calling Virginia Tech University (2017-2022) Served as Analyst for QB’s and tight ends from 2020-22, after having worked with the QB’s, receivers and tight ends as a graduate assistant coach from 2017-19 Assumed the role of running position meetings during Covid in the absence of multiple position coaches Gelsomino coached two Virginia Tech tight ends into the NFL Draft, with Dalton Keene (3rd round – New England) in 2020 and James Mitchell (5th round – Detroit) in 2023 Coached the Hokies in four bowl games during his time on staff (Camping World, Military, Belk and Pinstripe) Sacred Heart University (2014-17) Took over as co-offensive coordinator for the 2016 campaign, while working with QB’s and serving as pass game coordinator Coached the running backs in 2014-15, helping the Pioneers to a 2014 NEC Championship and FCS playoff appearance New England Patriots (2013-14) Was a football operations intern for the Patriots, assisting coaches with a variety of tasks and assisting in on field drills

Bio Ron DiGravio – Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers Alma Mater: Bates College '08 Has been a member of three NEC Championships at CCSU, with FCS Championship appearances in 2019. 2024 and 2025 Previous Experience: 2019-present - CCSU, Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers 2016-18 - CCSU, Assistant Coach/Inside Linebackers/Special Teams Coordinator 2014-15 - CCSU, Assistant Coach/Defensive Line 2012-13 – Harvard, Assistant Coach/Defensive Line 2010-12 – University of New Haven, Assistant Coach/Running Backs 2009-10 – University of New Haven, Assistant Coach/Wide Receivers 2008-09 – King's College, Assistant Coach/Linebackers Bio: Spent two seasons coaching the defensive line at Harvard University. Prior to Harvard, DiGravio spent three seasons on the coaching staff at the University of New Haven. While with the Chargers, he had stints coaching the wide receiver and running back positions. DiGravio's first coaching position came in 2008 at King's College where he worked with the linebackers.
