Adams became the 16th Head Coach in Cheyney University womens basketball history. It is his first career head coaching position and a dream job for this proud alum. I am honored to be named the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Cheyney University. Cheyney is a special place for my family and I. I am excited to represent our university, and be part of its growth and tradition, and I look forward to building on the tradition of excellence at Cheyney. I feel very fortunate to be able to coach at my alma mater. The 2015-2016 season marks Adams third season at the helm of the Lady Wolves program and sixth overall. Adams has already seen growth in the womens basketball program under his leadership and guidance. In his second season, Adams led the Lady Wolves to improvements in three statistical categories: field goal percentage, scoring percentage and 3-point field goal percentage. In addition to numerous team improvements, the 17-year coaching veteran, guided his student-athletes to several individual successes. Under Adams direction and training, post player Kyra Hines-Allen was named 2nd Team All-PSAC East. She is the first female basketball player to receive this accolade since the 2011-2012 season. Amber Genwright, also had a successful campaign for the Lady Wolves and, as a result, was named PSAC Freshman of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 26th. During his first year as Head Coach at the most storied HBCU womens basketball program in history, Kyle Adams main goal was to change the culture both on and off the court. One of the biggest victories of the season came off the court when senior, Cristina Jordan, graduated with a perfect 4.0 and was awarded the 2014 Presidents Scholar Athlete Award. Another milestone during his first season as head coach came when the Lady Wolves recorded the most conference victories in program history since the 2009-2010 campaign. Winning games was important to Adams, but teaching his players to do things the right way on the court, in the classroom and in life were even more important. Adams believes that if his players focus on the process, the positive results will follow. Adams came to Cheyney after serving as an assistant coach at the University of the Rio Grande from 2009 to 2011. During his two years with the Red Storm, Doug Campbell earned Mid-South Conference Mens Basketball Player of the Week honors. A true student of the game, Adams is an advocate for continuous self-improvement and dedicates his summers to attending numerous symposiums and conventions. In June 2015, Adams was selected as one of the 30 Head Coaches across the country to participate in the Center for Coaching Excellence by the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The event introduces coaches to various aspects of leadership and provides a deeper understanding and appreciation of the importance of ethics and integrity in college basketball. The exclusive invitation-only elite leadership program was held at Columbia University in New York City. A true believer in giving back to the community Adams is the Founder of Team Together Basketball Academy. A summer basketball camp which assists the next generation of student-athletes in improving their skill set and mental approach to society, athletics and academics. A native of Philadelphia, PA., Adams graduated from Cheyney University with a bachelors degree in Psychology in 1999. In 2011, Adams obtained his Masters of Education degree in Athletic Coaching and Leadership from the University of Rio Grande. He is a member of the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Advocates for Athletic Equity formerly known as the Black Coaches and Administrators, and the Epsilon Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. Adams is married to the former Denita Peay. The couple has one son, Mason.
