Bryan Hill
Head Coach
Hill enters his sixth season as the Hawks' top assistant baseball coach. In the 2015-2016 season, Hill assisted the Hawks in clinching the CIAA Championship title for the first time in school program history and advancing to the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Tournament. In his undergraduate years, Hill spent four years as a starting pitcher and outfielder for the Hawks (2005-2009) and spent the 2010 season as a volunteer assistant under then-Head Coach Aaron Carroll. As a player for Chowan, Hill holds the career record for innings pitched (267.1). In 2006, Hill was named to the All NCCAA South Region Team as a left-handed pitcher. Hill graduated from Chowan in May of 2009 and worked locally as a personal trainer for one year. He volunteered as the Hawks' strength and conditioning coach and helped the team with day-to-day field coaching for the 2009-2010 season. After one season, Hill left to pursue coaching full time as an assistant coach at Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tennessee. At JSCC, Hill served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Athletic Department and as the baseball team's pitching coach. Hill has worked several baseball camps over his coaching career. While working with members of the pitching staff, Hill has guided five players to earn All-CIAA recognition. He has also been a part of two CIAA Championship game appearances. He remains active in developing student-athletes through the Coastal Plain League in the summer. Hill is in his fifth year in the league as head coach and fourth with the Edenton Steamers. He earned Coastal Plain League Coach of the Year honors in 2013 and 2015. He is married to Jacqueline Ferns Hill of Chesapeake, Virginia. The couple has one daughter, Lou-Anna. They reside in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Bob Smith
Head Coach
Bob Smith enters his second season as the head coach of the Chowan University baseball program after bringing decades of collegiate, professional, and player development experience to the Hawks. Smith was named head coach of the Hawks on June 6, 2025, bringing with him an accomplished coaching résumé that spans the collegiate, summer league, and professional baseball ranks. During his first season leading the Hawks in 2026, Smith focused on establishing the foundation and culture of the program while emphasizing player development in the highly competitive Conference Carolinas. Throughout the season, several student-athletes emerged as key contributors and future building blocks for the Hawks. Under Smith’s guidance, Ahmaad Goldson earned D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors as both a pitcher and utility player after producing one of the top all-around seasons in the conference. Goldson’s leadership proved instrumental throughout the campaign as he led the Hawks in RBIs (29), home runs (4), and strikeouts on the mound (46). Smith also helped mentor KJ Durand Jr. to College Sports Communicators All-District recognition, highlighting the program’s continued commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom. The Hawks additionally saw the emergence of a talented freshman class that provided excitement for the future of the program. Jordan Turner led the team with a .421 batting average and 40 hits during an impressive debut season, while Derrick Davis delivered steady defensive play in the outfield with a .982 fielding percentage. Jacob Howard also emerged as a dependable presence at first base, continuing to give the Hawks consistency on both sides of the ball. A Pennsylvania native, Smith began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisiana State University while completing his Master of Science in Education. Following his time at LSU, Smith joined the staff at University of Tennessee as a full-time assistant coach before spending four seasons at the University of Kentucky. During his tenure with the Wildcats, Smith helped guide the program to a 41-20 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1991. Smith later accepted a pitching coach position at Virginia Commonwealth University where he helped the Rams capture a Metro Conference Championship and earn an NCAA Tournament berth during his three-year stint. After departing the collegiate ranks, Smith founded a baseball academy in Richmond, Virginia, where he established long-term roots while building a successful grassroots player development organization that remains active throughout the greater Richmond area. More than 50 players from the academy have gone on to be selected in the MLB Draft. The veteran coach eventually returned to the college game as a pitching coach at George Washington University and also gained extensive summer league experience, including serving as head coach of the Petersburg Generals in 2010. Smith additionally coached in both the Coastal Plain League and the Cape Cod Baseball League. Alongside his collegiate coaching career, Smith has worked as a professional scout for the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and St. Louis Cardinals. Throughout his coaching career, Smith has helped mentor and develop 118 players who were eventually selected in the MLB Draft.

Brady Goode
Assistant Coach
Brady Goode enters his second season with the Chowan University baseball program as an assistant coach, where he oversees the infield and serves as the Hawks’ Defensive Coordinator. In addition to directing the defense, Goode plays an integral role in hitting instruction, scouting, player development, and recruiting efforts. During the 2026 season, Goode helped guide the development of several emerging contributors for the Hawks, including a talented freshman class that established itself as a key part of the program’s future. Under his instruction, Jordan Turner led the team with a .421 batting average and 40 hits during an impressive debut campaign, while Derrick Davis posted a .982 fielding percentage in the outfield. Jacob Howard also emerged as a dependable presence defensively at first base, highlighting the continued growth of the Hawks under Goode’s player-focused approach. Goode came to Chowan after spending three seasons at Mary Baldwin University from 2021-24, where he served as an assistant baseball coach for the Fighting Squirrels. During his tenure, he worked closely with hitters and outfielders while overseeing recruiting, coordinating travel, preparing scouting reports, and assisting with overall player development. He began his time at Mary Baldwin as a graduate assistant before being elevated into a full-time assistant coaching role. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Goode is the owner and head coach of the Richmond Trash Pandas, a summer league organization competing in the NABA Richmond League. Since 2020, he has recruited top collegiate talent from across Virginia to compete in a highly competitive summer environment while also managing practice plans, travel logistics, and day-to-day operations. Goode also brings coaching experience at the high school and youth levels, including serving as the varsity baseball coach at Mechanicsville High School in 2021 and coaching with the Richmond Baseball Academy Seminoles. As a student-athlete, Goode was a versatile utility player at Averett University, where he competed for three seasons, and also spent time at Virginia Wesleyan University on the junior varsity team. Goode earned his Master of Business Administration from Mary Baldwin University and received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management with a minor in Communications from Averett University.

Trey Morgan
Assistant Coach
Trey Morgan enters his second season with the Chowan University baseball program after joining the Hawks as an assistant coach in August 2025 ahead of the 2026 season. During his first season on staff, Morgan played an important role in the development of the Hawks’ offensive approach and overall player growth while helping mentor several emerging contributors throughout the roster. His experience as a former collegiate two-way player provided valuable insight and leadership for Chowan’s student-athletes both on and off the field. Morgan helped guide Ahmaad Goldson to D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors as both a pitcher and utility player following one of the top all-around campaigns in the conference. Goldson led the Hawks in RBIs (29), home runs (4), and strikeouts on the mound (46) while serving as one of the program’s leaders throughout the season. Morgan also assisted in the development of a promising freshman class that established itself as a foundation for the future of the program. Jordan Turner paced the Hawks with a .421 batting average and 40 hits during his freshman campaign, while Derrick Davis provided strong defensive play in the outfield with a .982 fielding percentage. Jacob Howard additionally emerged as a dependable presence at first base for the Hawks. Prior to Chowan, Morgan graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 2024 following a standout five-year career with the Keydets as a versatile two-way player, competing both in the outfield and on the mound. Morgan left his mark on the VMI baseball program by setting the school record for career games played (214) while ranking second in career at-bats (773). He also established the program’s longest on-base streak at 42 games and finished among the top 10 in several categories including total bases (410), hits (245), stolen bases (63), runs scored (160), walks (109), triples (7), and fielding percentage (.984). His accomplishments on the field earned multiple Southern Conference honors throughout his career. Morgan was named Preseason All-SoCon First Team Outfielder before earning All-Conference Second Team recognition after batting .327 during the 2024 season. He additionally earned All-SoCon Second Team honors in 2023 and was selected to the All-SoCon Freshman Team in 2021. Beyond his collegiate experience, Morgan competed in the Coastal Plain League with the Peninsula Pilots, playing under his father, Hank Morgan, the league’s all-time winningest coach. His grandfather, Henry Morgan, also owns the franchise, continuing the family’s deep connection to the game of baseball. In 2024, Morgan was selected to the CPL Select Team that competed against the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in Cary, North Carolina.
