Steve Gomez
Head Coach
Gomez spent three seasons as an assistant coach and pitching coach with the Owls from 2002-2004 before taking over the program in 2005. In that time, Gomez led the Owls pitching staff to the second lowest ERA in the state in 2003, as Citrus won the Western State Conference Championship. Prior to coming to Citrus, Coach Gomez had spent three years as the pitching coach at his Alma Mater, Cal Poly Pomona, helping to guide the Broncos to a pair of second-place finishes in the conference tournament. Gomez was a highly respected high school coach as well, leading Charter Oak HS to a 59-23 record from 1996-98, leading the team to league championships each year. His 1996 team was a CIF Finalist. Before hanging up his cleats, Gomez had a long and successful playing career. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 1984, having been a member of their National Championship team in 1983, when he was an All-America pitcher. Gomez was drafted in the 30th round by the Oakland A's and spent five seasons in the minor leagues, reaching Triple-A ball with the Minnessota Twins. He was a Midwest League All-Star in 1985, finishing with a 8-6 record with 20 saves and a 1.96 ERA. His career record stands at 33-29 with a 2.89 ERA and 60 saves. Gomez, who also completed an MA in Exercise Science from Cal Poly resides in Claremont with his three children, Justin, Dana and Cory.
