Greg Lonzo
Head Coach
Greg Lonzo enters his 18th season at the helm of the CMS Men's and Women's Water Polo programs in 2025-26. The Stags have earned four SCIAC championships during that time in 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2023, and earned the first national title in program history in 2023, when it defeated Redlands 6-5 for the USA Water Polo Division III Championship. Lonzo has also led the Athenas to three straight appearances in the USA Water Polo Division III Championship from 2023-25, falling in overtime in 2023 and by one goal in 2025. The Athenas have compiled the best SCIAC record in program history in 2023 and 2025 (11-1) and has compiled the best three-year stretch in program history as well (32-4). In the 2015 season, the Stags were a perfect 11-0 in SCIAC, sweeping through the regular season and the SCIAC Championships to earn a berth to the first NCAA tournament for water polo. Over his career, the Stags have had a .719 winning percentage in SCIAC contents (123-48), while the Athenas are at .671 (116-57). Prior to winning the 2023 title, Lonzo coached the Stags to back-to-back appearances in the USA Water Polo Division III Championship game in 2019 and 2021 (around a lost year due to COVID-19). The 2019 team earned a bid with a dramatic 12-11 comeback win over Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC Semifinals, while the 2021 team captured it with a big road win over Cal Lutheran, and ended up taking Division III unbeaten Pomona-Pitzer into overtime in the national finals. Lonzo is a 2002 graduate of Pepperdine University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a four-year varsity player and is the career leader in goals scored at Pepperdine, and was a three-time All-American and runner-up for National Player of the Year in 2002. Lonzo has previously served as the Head Coach at the Riverside Water Polo Club, coaching both an 18-under and a 16-under team. He also served two years as an assistant coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before taking over the head coaching position, and worked in over 20 water polo camps representing Pepperdine.
