Bill Gray
Assistant Coach
Gray kicked off his inaugural campaign getting both Cougar programs to show tremendous growth and positive results. The men had five top-five team performances, including a second-place finish at the Worcester City Championship, where claimed the individual crown. The women, meanwhile, had four top ten team showings and saw the emergence of several young runners. Gray has been an assistant track and field coach at Division I Columbia University and Division III Swarthmore College and was the first head coach in the history of Centenary College mens and womens cross country. Most recently, Gray was the co-head coach of the track program at the Saint Bernadette School in Northborough, Mass. where he was responsible for developing workouts and coaching more than 30 student-athletes. "I am very excited to be joining the Clark University Athletic Department and helping to continue the tradition of coaching great student-athletes, said Gray. Leveraging my knowledge of running and coaching along with the great core of runners we have, I anticipate a great upcoming season for the Clark University Cross Country program." An elite level athlete in his own right, Gray was a three-time All-Centennial Conference and three-time all-region performer in cross country, finishing 33rd at the 1994 national championships as a junior. On the track Gray was just as impressive, collecting a Centennial Conference title in the 5,000-meter indoor run, which catapulted him to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 1996. Then in the outdoor season of his senior campaign, Gray finished second at the conference championships in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter events, and then finished seventh at the national championship event in the 800 to collect his third All-America distinction. The only athlete in Gettysburg Colleges athletic history to earn All-America status in three sports, Gray was inducted into the Colleges Athletic Hall of Honor in 2009. Gray has also found success in the business world, having spent the last 14 years working for Poland Springs, rising to the position of Key Customer Manager. A 1996 graduate with a degree in history, he resides in Westborough with his wife, Kristen, a 1995 Gettysburg graduate, and their two children.
