Tyler Cline

Head Coach

Tyler Cline, a 2015 Clarkson University graduate, enters his third season as head coach of the Golden Knights in 2025–26. Since taking over the program in 2023, Cline has focused on player development, consistent scoring improvement, and building a competitive team culture. In his first two seasons, Clarkson golfers continued to make measurable gains across all performance areas. Cline brings significant competitive experience to the program, having played at the collegiate, amateur, and professional levels. At Clarkson, he was a key contributor throughout his four-year career and steadily elevated his performance, particularly in his final two seasons. Over 35 rounds as a junior and senior, he averaged 74.91 strokes per 18, including second-place finishes at the Liberty League Championship Qualifiers in fall 2013 and the Liberty League Championships in spring 2015. In the former of those two events, Cline shot 139, including a six-under 66 on day two of the Liberty League Qualifier. Cline was named a PING Division III All-American Honorable Mention in 2013-14 and was PING All-Region in both 2013-14 and 2014-15. He also earned Liberty League All-Star honors on three occasions.    Cline's growth as a collegiate player laid the foundation for several years of high-level competition after graduation. After college, he spent multiple seasons playing professionally, gaining experience across developmental tours and regional championships before returning to the amateur ranks in 2022. Since then, he has resumed competing in top amateur and regional events. His continued involvement in tournament golf provides his players with firsthand insight into preparation, course management, and having a competitive mindset. Cline leverages his full range of playing and coaching experience to guide Clarkson’s student-athletes. His approach emphasizes structured practice, data-driven improvement, and learning to compete with confidence. Under his leadership, the Golden Knights continue to evolve into a program defined by discipline, steady development, and a strong team identity. The team's scoring average has dropped throughout his time with the Knights, going from a 308.22 scoring average in 2023-24 to 307.79 (and two tournament wins) in 2024-25. In the fall of 2025, Clarkson won three tournaments and averaged 302.92 strokes for its team score in seven events.

Jim Kane

Associate Head Coach

Kanes 16 years as the Golden Knights head coach. Since the 2001 season, Kane has led the Green and Gold to 313 victories, including ten 20-win seasons, and one of the best winning percentage in the programs storied history at .536. With his final victory in 2011, a win in the NCAA Tournament no less, he became the all-time leader in victories for Clarkson Baseball. Additionally, Kane has been chosen as the conference's coach of the year three times, including twice in the past three seasons (2014, 2016). This past season, Clarkson rallied from a slow start in Florida to finish second in the Liberty League with a conference mark of 14-8 (20-18 overall) and reached the post-season for the 11th time in the past 14 seasons.  In 2009, the Golden Knights reached their first-ever NCAA Tournament when the team won its first Liberty League Tournament Championship. The Knights went on to finish third in the six-team NCAA New York regional, falling one-half inning short of the championship game. In 2010, Clarkson reached the conference championship game for the second straight season but came up short in repeating its NCAA Tournament run. With a 2-0 record in a rain-shortened Liberty League Tournament in 2011, the Knights reached their second NCAA Regional, losing the first game in extra innings before winning the record-breaking game for Kane in the elimination bracket. Over the past few seasons, the Knights have continually challenged themselves by competing against some of the best teams in the country on their annual spring trips, including many games against top-10 ranked opponents. The tough early schedules have led to better conference showings as Clarkson has reached the conference tournament 11 times in its 14-year existence, including a regular-season championship in 2004, while finishing as the tournaments runner-up on three occasions. After guiding the Green and Gold to their second consecutive ECAC Upstate NY Tournament Championship in his first year at the helm of Clarkons baseball program, Kane led the Knights to a school-best 26 victories in 2002, gaining UCAA accolades for his efforts. Numerous Knights have earned all-star distinction under Kanes watch, including a pair of All-Americans (Matt Nolan in 2000 and David Kinney in 2011 and 2012), 23 All-NYS players, 16 ECAC honorees, 17 Verizon Academic All-Americas and 98 conference all-stars. A native of Canajoharie, New York, Kane has extensive baseball coaching experience. Prior to coming to Clarkson, Kane was an assistant coach at Brockport State, helping to elevate that program to one of the top spots in the SUNYAC. As the Golden Eagles top assistant coach, Kane helped to guide Brockport back into a national powerhouse during the late 1990s and into 2000. Kane graduated from Brockport in 1995 with a bachelors degree in Sports Management. In 1997, he earned a second bachelors degree in Physical Education and gained his masters degree in Athletic Administration in 2000. A member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Kane, who oversees the successful Clarkson Summer Baseball Camp, has acted as a camp instructor at both the Penn State and Brockport baseball camps. He is married to Clarkson Assistant Athletic Director Laurel Kane. Clarkson baseball has enjoyed great success during Jim Kanes 16  years as the Golden Knights head coach.
