Brian Ruffles
Head Coach
Ruffles time at Coe, he has been a graduate assistant, intern and volunteer. In addition to his duties at Coe, he was the Head Coach and Youth Team Coordinator for the Linn-Mar Swim Team. Ruffles had previously spent six years as an assistant coach with the Cedar Rapids Aquatics Association. In a six-year span, Ruffles had 13 individuals set State of Iowa age group records, while one relay set a record. He had eight sectional qualifiers, while also having 16 central zones qualifiers. During the summer of 2013, he served as the Head Coach of the Team Iowa Zones staff. Ruffles earned his Bachelor of Scicence in Mathematics from SUNY-Fredonia in 2008, while also earning a minor in coaching. He finished a Master of Arts in Education from Coe in 2011.

Ivan Sanchez
Assistant Coach
Sanchez brings extensive coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and elite club levels as well as international swimming experience to the coaching staff. Sanchez swam as a member of the Mexican National Team from 1995-2008, where he qualified for three Olympic Trials (2000, 2004 and 2008) and competed in many national and international competitions including Sectionals, Grand Prix, US Open, Junior Nationals, US Nationals, Central American Games and World Championships. After coming to the United States, he swam for the Mission Viejo Nadadores in Mission Viejo, California and then was recruited as an NCAA Division I swimmer at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he competed for four years. During this time at SIU-C he was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion and team captain. After his swimming career was over, he volunteered as an assistant coach. Upon graduating with Bachelors degrees in Finance and Management, and a Masters Degree in Sport Management from SIU-C, he moved to Iowa City to take a position as Head Swim Coach for the Iowa City High School Girls and Boys Swimming Team where he has been building program for five years. His success with City High is reflected in numerous athletes qualifying for junior nationals and sectionals at the state championship meet. Specifically, under his lead, five swimmers have broken school records that were over 15 years old and more than 20 swimmers qualified for State including two State champions, two runner ups and multiple top-six finishers. Sanchez also has over six years of experience coaching club swimming as an Assistant Coach for the Iowa City Eels Swim Club in Iowa City, the Saluki Swim Club in Carbondale, Ill. and the Du Quoin Indians Swim Club in Du Quoin, Ill. Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Sanchez currently resides with his wife, Brianna, and daughter, Ivanna, in North Liberty. In his free time, he enjoys swimming as an athlete and has recently competed in Masters World Swimming Championships in Montreal, Canada and holds the Iowa State record in 200 Fly and 400 IM and Mexican national records in 200 Fly, 400 Free, and 1500 Free.
