In 2025 Langel set the Patriot League record for the most conference tournament wins as a head coach with 22. Under his leadership, Colgate has experienced the most successful era in program history, including:  Five 20-win seasons Six of the program’s eight Patriot League regular-season championships Five of the program’s seven Patriot League Tournament titles Four consecutive tournament championships (2021–24) Since 2018 alone, Langel has guided Colgate to five 20-win seasons, five regular-season titles, five tournament championships, and five NCAA Tournament appearances, firmly establishing the Raiders as one of the nation’s most consistent mid-major programs. Historic Runs to the NCAA Tournament 2023–24 Season Colgate finished 25-10 overall, tied for the second-most wins in program history, and went 16–2 in Patriot League play for the third straight season. The Raiders became the first team in Patriot League history to go unbeaten on the road (9–0) during league play, securing their fifth consecutive regular-season title and fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. 2022–23 Season The Raiders set a program record with 26 wins (26–9) and became the first team in Patriot League history to win 17 conference games (17–1). Colgate ranked among the nation’s elite offensively: No. 1 in three-point percentage (40.8%) No. 2 in field goal percentage (51.4%) No. 2 in effective field goal percentage (58.5%) No. 3 in assists per game (18.6) 2021–22 Season Colgate won a program-record 15 consecutive games, capturing its fifth Patriot League championship and earning a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament. National rankings included: No. 2 in three-point field goal percentage No. 6 in total three-pointers made No. 8 in assists per game 2020–21 Season Colgate ranked among the nation’s best statistically: No. 1 in three-point field goal defense (26.4%) No. 2 in scoring offense (85.2 ppg) No. 3 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6) 2018–19 Season Langel led Colgate back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 23 years, finishing 24–11 overall. An eight-game winning streak secured the Patriot League regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Player Development and Professional Advancement Colgate’s success under Langel extends beyond the college game. More than 20 players have gone on to play professionally, including recent graduates: Tucker Richardson ’23, Keegan Records ’23, Ryan Moffatt ’23, Jack Ferguson ’22, Jordan Burns ’21, Will Rayman ’20, and Rapolas Ivanauskas ’20. Academic Excellence Colgate University consistently ranks among the nation’s top academic institutions, and the men’s basketball program reflects that standard. The university’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR) annually exceeds 95%, and the program routinely earns NCAA public recognition for multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. Coaching Background Langel was named the 20th head coach in Colgate’s 114-year basketball history on April 25, 2011. Prior to Colgate, he spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Temple University (2006–11) under legendary head coach Fran Dunphy, the winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history and a 2019 Big 5 Hall of Fame inductee. Langel also served two seasons on Dunphy’s staff at Penn, helping guide his alma mater to back-to-back Ivy League championships. Playing Career A 2000 graduate of the Wharton School of Business, Langel enjoyed a standout playing career at Penn (1996–2000), helping lead the Quakers to two Ivy League championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Penn went 27-1 in Ivy League play during his junior and senior seasons and posted a 42-14 overall record. Honors and achievements include: Multiple Ivy League and Big Five Player of the Week selections Big Five Most Improved Player Award Holiday Festival All-Tournament Team (1998) Golden Bear Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team (1999) Langel scored 1,191 career points, ranking among Penn’s all-time leaders, and finished: 2nd all-time in three-pointers made in a game (8) 8th in three-pointers made in a season (70) 4th in career three-pointers made (201) Professional Career Following graduation, Langel was drafted by the Atlantic City Seagulls (USBL) and worked out with the Seattle SuperSonics. He went on to play professionally in Europe, including stops in: Switzerland (Chêne BC) France (ALM Évreux Basket – Pro A) Germany (MBC and Hagen – Bundesliga I) The Netherlands (Eiffel Towers) He also participated in the Philadelphia 76ers Summer Camp in 2001. Awards/Honors NABC Under Armour 30-Under-30 Coaching Experience Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, Colgate University (2018-pr.) Director of Men's Basketball Operations, Colgate University (2017-18) Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, SUNY Morrisville (2015-17) Playing Experience Colgate University (2010-15) Education B.A., History, Colgate University (2015) B.A., Sociology/Anthropology, Colgate University (2015) At Colgate Pat Moore ’15 was named the assistant coach for Colgate Men's Basketball in August 2018.   During his time in Hamilton, Moore has guided the development of four Patriot League Players of the Year, 10 first-time All-Patriot League players, a Scholar-Athlete of the Year, two Defensive Players of the Year, one Rookie of the Year, and several All-Rookie, All-Defense, All-District, and All-League selections.  In 2019, Moore was honored by the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) on the Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team, representing 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30.  Colgate claimed its first Patriot League championship in more than two decades in 2018-19 and has since claimed five Patriot League championships, five NCAA tournament appearances, five regular season championships, and five 20-win campaigns under Moore's assistance. The Raiders have advanced to three NCAA tournaments as a No. 14 seed, their highest rank in program history.  Moore was promoted to assistant coach after spending one year as the team's director of operations in 2017-18.    Moore has also served as a Mohawk Valley Elite AAU head coach and camp counselor for the New York Knicks basketball camp.   Before Colgate Moore spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Morrisville State College. He helped lead the 2016-17 team to a NEAC Championship and NCAA appearance as the Mustangs finished the season with a 22-7 record. Moore identified and recruited standout Kevin Dennis, who was named the NEAC Rookie of the Year, the D3Hoops East Region Rookie of the Year, ECAC Sports North Rookie of the Year and HERO Sports D3 Newcomer of the Year.   Prior to the Mustang’s 2016-17 conference title, Moore guided the 2015-16 team to a 19-8 record and a NEAC championship game appearance. While at Morrisville, Moore was responsible for game day preparation, opponent scouting, evaluating and recruiting prospective student-athletes and assisting in the supervision of the players’ academics.   Moore, originally from nearby Whitesboro, N.Y., graduated from Colgate University in 2015 and holds two bachelor’s degrees in history and sociology/anthropology. He completed his master's degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland in 2019.  Playing Experience Pat Moore returned to Colgate on the coaching staff after spending five seasons (2010-2015) as a student-athlete in the Maroon and White. A three-year starting shooting guard and two-time team captain, he concluded his career ranked second all-time in Colgate history in career 3-point percentage (40.6%) and sixth in career 3-point field goals made (188). Moore helped change the culture of the Raiders by increasing win totals in each of his years as a student-athlete. He led Colgate to its best season since 1996 and a program-record number of Patriot League wins at the time as a senior in 2014-15. Moore finished his career with 923 points. Strong off the court as well, the history and sociology/anthropology double major earned Dean’s List distinction and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll status twice during his Colgate career.

Trey Montgomery

Assistant Coach, University of Pennsylvania (2018-22) Assistant Coach, Eastern University (2016-18) Playing Experience Albuquerque Thunderbirds, NBA D-League Giessen Pointers, Germany Jackson Showboats, ABA Samford University (2006-10) At Colgate Trey Montgomery was named to the Colgate men's basketball staff as an assistant coach in June 2022. His first two seasons as a Colgate assistant coach featured record-breaking success. Colgate set the program's single-season records for total wins (26) and league wins (17) in 2022-23, followed by a 25-win season in 2023-24. Montgomery helped the Raiders to back-to-back Patriot League championships and NCAA tournament appearances (2022-23, 2023-24) while aiding in the development of five All-Patriot League First Team honorees, two Patriot League Players of the Year, a Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and several All-Rookie Team, All-Defensive Team, All-District, and All-League selections.  Before Colgate Montgomery served the past four years as an assistant coach at Penn, where he helped lead the Quakers to 47 total wins and 24 conference victories. During his time in Philadelphia, Montgomery aided in the development of six All-Ivy League honorees and one Co-Player of the Year.  Penn finished the 2021-22 season with 12 wins and a 9-5 conference mark. The Quakers posted a five-game winning streak during the Ivy League regular season, which included two wins over Harvard and a triumph over league champion Yale.  In his first season in 2018-19, Penn went 4-0 during Philadelphia Big 5 play, including a win over defending NCAA champion Villanova. It was the Quakers' first unbeaten Big 5 campaign since 2001-02 and just the second since 1973-74.  Prior to his time at Penn, Montgomery spent two seasons as an assistant men's basketball coach at Eastern University in nearby St. Davids, Pa. Prior to that, he spent four years as an assistant coach at Destrehan (La.) High School and coached the U-14 AAU Louisiana Legends team. Montgomery is a native of St. Rose, La., a town about 20 minutes west of New Orleans. He resides in Hamilton with his wife, Kala, and their two sons, Traycen and Klay. Playing Career Montgomery played college basketball at Division I Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where he was a four-year letter winner and two-year captain. He finished his career with 1,030 career points (19th in program history) and more than 350 rebounds, 200 assists and 100 steals. He made 112 appearances including 88 consecutive starts to end his career.   Montgomery was a two-time recipient of the program's Kevy McInnis Award, given annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership both on and off the court, possesses the desire to achieve, and devotes his time to both church and community service. He also was a two-time recipient of Samford basketball's Practice Hard Award and received the program's Rebound and Assist Awards during his career.   Off the court, Montgomery was one of two campus-wide recipients of Samford University's John C. Pittman Spirit Accolade in 2009-10. The annual award recognizes a graduating senior who has exhibited serious commitment to being a student, honoring Christ, maintaining personal health, and involvement in student life. Following graduation, Montgomery had a brief training camp stint with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in the NBA D-League. He also spent two seasons overseas in Germany for the VfB1900 Giessen Pointers and played two seasons in the ABA as a member of the Jackson Showboats.
