Steve Kimble
Head Coach
Kimble looks to continue that success as he heads into his eighth year with the program in 2016. Saint Benedict finished 7-8-2 overall and 5-6 in the MIAC and missed the leagues postseason tournament for the first time since 2009. Kimble has guided CSB to a postseason berth in five of his first seven seasons at the helm. CSB started 2015 with a 5-0 shutout against Minnesota-Morris then, after playing UW-Stout to a tie, shut out UW-Oshkosh for a 2-0-1 start on the year. Saint Benedict added another 5-0 shutout, this time against Saint Marys, in mid-September before going on the road to beat Carleton and tie with Wartburg. Senior Ellie Mullen earned All-MIAC First Team honors and also earned a spot on the All-Central Region team. Senior Gracie Vaughan and junior Taylor Hedin earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors, and Vaughan (second team) and Peggy Renier (third team) both earned NSCAA Scholar All-Region accolades. In his first seven seasons, Kimble has coached two All-Americans, one MIAC Player of the Year, 13 All-Region athletes, nine All-MIAC Honorable Mention selections and 20 All-MIAC athletes. He is 78-42-13 overall at Saint Benedict with a 49-25-3 mark in conference play. CSB has recorded winning seasons in six of his first seven years with the program, and Saint Benedict has finished the year with a winning record 26 of the past 27 years. Kimble took over as head coach at Saint Benedict in 2009 and guided the team to a 10-7-1 record. In 2010, the Blazers took third in the MIAC, and in his third season at the helm in 2011, Kimble led CSB to MIAC regular-season and tournament titles. He was named the MIAC and NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year. That same year, the Blazers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA National Tournament. At the end of the season, Kimble was selected as the head coach of the USA DIII All-Star team that toured in Brazil. The Blazers finished 7-6-4 in 2012 and made the MIAC tournament. That season, they were the only team in the MIAC to score in every regular-season game. In 2013, Kimble led CSB to MIAC regular-season and tournament titles and was named the conference coach of the year for the second time. The Blazers went 16-3-1 overall and 9-2 in the MIAC and made it to the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. In 2014, CSB went 14-4-1 overall and 8-3-0 in the MIAC and lost to St. Thomas in a shootout in the first round of the MIAC tournament. From 2003 to 2008, Kimble served as a coach and Director of Coaching for the Lakes Area Youth Soccer Association. In addition, he has been a Coerver Coaching Camp clinician and camp director for seven years. Kimble began his coaching career in 1995 as a St. Cloud Soccer Club coach and director of coaching education, a position he held until 2002. From 1998-2002 he worked with Sartell High School as the assistant girls soccer coach and track and field throws coach. Kimble also assisted with the SJU track and field program in 2000. From there, he went on to Brainerd High School where he was hired as head girls soccer and track and field pole vault coach. In a successful run with the girls soccer program he was named Section 8AA coach of the year twice, won five consecutive conference titles and qualified twice for the state tournament. In his last five years at Brainerd, Kimbles record against Central Lakes Conference opponents was 58-5-3. He graduated from Sartell High School in 1995 and went on to attend Saint Johns University, graduating in 1999. While attending SJU, Kimble earned All-American honors in track and field and earned a Bachelors degree in elementary education. He later earned a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Southwest Minnesota State University and completed a second Masters degree in sports administration from St. Cloud State in spring 2015. Kimble also serves as Assistant Athletic Director and oversees CSB athletics promotions and events.
