Dave Williams

Head Coach

Williams enters his fifth year as the head coach of the CSS men's hockey program in 2025-26, his sixth year overall as a member of the Saints coaching staff. The former Saints captain was hired to be the program’s assistant coach in December of 2020 before becoming the programs 12th head coach in 2021. Williams had the interim tag removed in March of 2022 following the season. During the 2024-25 season, the Saints reached as high as No. 17 in the National Polls, and finished with four All-MIAC players, with Wyatt Wurst winning MIAC Rookie of the Year and also being named a AHCA  Second-Team All-American. During the 2022-23 season, Williams was recognized as the MIAC Men’s Hockey Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the CCM/AHCA National Coach of the Year after guiding the Saints to a 17-7-3 (.685) overall record while going 13-1-2 (.875) in conference play. The saints reached the 17-win mark for the first time since the 2009-10 season on route to capturing the school’s first MIAC regular season championship in any sport. This was also St. Scholastica’s first men’s hockey conference championship since 1975. Williams’ squad led the MIAC in goals scored (109), goals scored per game (4.04), scoring margin (1.3), shot percentage (.15), save percentage (.917), and blocked shots (315) while averaging nearly five goals scored per conference contest with an average margin of victory of 2.1 on the year. Williams is the first St. Scholastica head coach in any sport to receive MIAC Coach of the Year honors.  In his two seasons at the helm, Williams has led the saints to an impressive 28-17-5 record (.612) and a MIAC conference record of 20-7-3 (.724). During that span, Williams has guided 9 MIAC All-Conference selections, 1 MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, 1 MIAC Defensive Player of the Year and 3 CCM/AHCA All-American’s. Williams played for the Saints from 2011-15 where he was named to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Rookie Team in 2012. He was named the team’s Best Defensive Player in 2012-13 and was named assistant captain in 2013-14. He was elevated to captain for the 2014-15 season.   The Calgary, Alberta native finished third on the team with 23 points his junior season and tied for the team lead with 18 assists his senior season. For his CSS career, Williams finished with 29 goals and 38 assists and 101 career games.   After graduating with a Finance degree from St. Scholastica in 2015, Williams played professionally for three years in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) amassing a total of 50 goals and 61 assists for 111 points with the Huntsville Havoc and Evansville Thunderbolts. Williams was named the Thunderbolts’ Most Valuable Player and Top Forward finishing his playing career in 2018 as Evansville’s all-time leader in goals (42) and points (91).

Mark Wick

Assistant Coach

Wick begins his 13th season behind the bench for the Saints in 2016-17.   Wick, who is the programs winningest coach with 162 wins in 12 seasons, is a two-time NCHA Coach of the Year being named in 2008-09 and then again in 2011-12. The Saints have advanced past the NCHA quarterfinals nine of the last 10 seasons and made the finals for the second time in program history in 2014. In 2009, Wick guided CSS to its second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since the 1982 season.   During the 2008-09 season, the Saints peaked at the No. 2 spot in the weekly U.S. College Hockey Online Division-III poll, holding the spot for three straight weeks starting January 19th. In 2009-10, the Saints were ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO poll for 15 straight weeks, peaking at No. 4. The Saints were back in the polls last season in the top 15 for five straight weeks, beginning on January 23rd.   Wick was hired just two days before the first practice of the 2004-05 season, but still earned honorable results in the first year. Since then, Wick has brought the program back to a former glory of national recognition last seen in the 1970s.   Wick turned the program around quickly in 2005-06 as the Saints had their first winning season in twenty years. The record caught more than a few people by surprise, but not many within the Saints hockey community because Wick has had success in every stop throughout his career.   A Hermantown native, the 1985 graduate of St. Scholastica transferred from Gustavus Adolphus College prior to his junior year. He was the teams second leading scorer his senior year with 41 points and was a scholar-athlete both years at Scholastica. After graduating, he earned a Master of Education degree from Bowling Green State University in 1989.   Coach Wicks leadership qualities were evident during a brief stint at Augsburg College where he was the assistant in the 1988-89 season then served as a co-head coach and head coach from 1990-96. He helped lead the Auggies to MIAC prominence during that time, recording a 36-34-3 overall record.   Following his time at Augsburg, Wick became an assistant coach at UW-Superior from 1996-2000. While at Superior he helped lead the Yellowjackets to three NCAA Frozen Four appearances (1997, 1999, 2000) and two NCHA playoff championships (1997, 2000).   He is married to Linda and has three children - Anders, Carly, and Jonathon.
