Gary Peterson
Head Coach
Peterson begins his 18th season as head coach of the College of the Canyons womens golf program, and his 34th season as head of the mens program. Peterson, the longest-tenured coach at College of the Canyons, had his start at the college in 1979 and has held a variety of positions along the way. His success rate at COC has been unsurpassed, as he is one of the winningest coaches in California Community College golf history. Under Petersons leadership, the mens golf program has won 21 Western State Conference (WSC) Championships, four California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Championships and a state record seven CCCAA State Championships. Two mens golfers have also claimed individual CCCAA State Championships under Petersons leadership, as Sidney Wolf (2014) and Ben Campbell (2016) brought the first two such titles to the college. The womens golf team has kept the same winning tradition, with eight WSC Championships, two CCCAA SoCal Regional Championships and two CCCAA State Championships. Peterson has also coached two individual state champions on the womens side in Jenny Lee (2007) and Kris Grimes (2011). In addition to his head coaching duties, Peterson serves as a faculty member in the colleges cinema department and coordinates the annual Friday Night Film Series, which brings films that are not released in large distribution to the Santa Clarita Valley. In his free time Peterson enjoys spending time at home with his wife and two children. Bio current as of Aug. 2016
