Ian Hennessey

Assistant Coach

Hennessey finds himself in theHoly Cross record books for a variety of relays. Along with formerteammates Steve Finnochi, Mike Emmons and Scott Rimm, Hennesseyhelped set school records in the 400 medley relay, and the 200, 400and 800 free relays. After graduating from Holy Cross, Hennessey went into the AirEducation Training Command for the United States Air Force. Aftercompleting the training with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant, Hennesseywas named Assistant Officer in Charge of the Missile MaintenanceTeam Section in 2003. After showing impressive leadership skills,Hennessey moved up to 1st Lieutenant and was named Officer inCharge of the Vehicle Support Section in 2004 and then progressedonto be Officer in Charge of the Missile Handling Section in2005. Hennessey currently works as a middle-school science teacher atOxford Middle School in Oxford, Mass., and serves as a Captain inthe Air Force Reserve. He and his wife, Beth Jenusaitis-Hennessey04, reside in Marlborough with their daughter Julia.

Wil Aybar

Wil Aybar is in his 23rd season as the men’s and women’s diving coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2025-2026. During the 2024-2025 campaign, Aybar’s divers broke three program records. Griffin Casey set a new men’s one-meter mark against Iona (316.35), Luke Parada eclipsed the men’s three-meter record at the Harold Anderson Invitational (345.20) and Brenna Short broke the women’s one-meter mark at the Worcester City Championship (292.70). Aybar previously coached Abby Bryant to two straight appearances in the NCAA Zone Diving Championship in 2022 and 2023, and Casey Sherman to three consecutive NCAA Zone Diving Championship appearances from 2016-2018. Sherman also set numerous school records, and still holds the women’s marks in the one-meter (11 dives) with a score of 424.28 and the three meter (six dives) with a score of 321.90. In 2008, Aybar coached Adam DeVito to new school records on the three-meter and one-meter diving boards. DeVito narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship and took fifth on the three-meter board at the Patriot League Championship. Aybar has also multiple divers earn Worcester City Championship Diver of the Meet honors. A 1999 graduate of Clark University, Aybar was a four-year member of the swimming and diving team. He received the Most Improved Diver award in 1996 and holds the record for the one-meter and three-meter springboards. He also served as the head diving coach for Clark University and WPI from 2000 to 2003, and the Nashawtuc Country Club team from 2000 to 2020. He also instructs area high school divers at the Central Massachusetts Diving Club. Aybar is a Spanish teacher in the Worcester Public School System at Doherty Memorial High School. He makes his home in Webster, Mass., with his son (Wil, Jr.) and daughter (Mia).
