Lisa Campanell Komara

Head Coach

Komara was previously Woosters womens basketball coach for 13 seasons (1997-2010), winning 122 games along the way. Among her career highlights were victories against the eventual NCAC champions in 2009-10 (74-61 over Wittenberg University), 2004-05 (68-61 over Kenyon College), and 1997-98 (65-57 over Wittenberg), as well as a 14-12 record in 2006-07, which marked the teams first winning record in 14 years. Campanell Komara had a 12-year tenure as womens basketball coach at Bethany (W. Va.) College, where she won 126 games, capped by a 22-4 mark and the schools first trip to the NCAA Div. III Championships. She was awarded with 1997 Presidents Athletic Conference Coach-of-the-Year honors. Besides coaching basketball at Bethany, Campanell Komara also handled stints as the head volleyball coach (1985-93) and head womens tennis coach (1994-97), and left as the schools all-time winningest coach in all three sports. She also served as coordinator of womens athletics (1987-91). Active in golf for years as a clinician, competitor, and volunteer, Campanell Komara taught golf classes for the physical education major at Bethany during her tenure there (1985-97) and has helped out at a number of LPGA events, highlighted by the 1992 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. More recently, Campanell Komara instructed and promoted the sport at local elementary schools. Campanell Komara, who also was a multi-sport coach at Kent State University-East Liverpool (1983-85), is a graduate of Beaver Local High School in East Liverpool, Ohio, and earned a bachelors degree in health and physical education from West Liberty State College in 1982. She went on to complete coursework requirements at West Virginia University toward a masters degree in sports administration as well as in the physical education/sport management doctoral program. Campanell Komara and her husband, Joe, reside in Wooster. They have two adult children, sons Andrew (21) and Kevin (18).
