Matt Morris

Head Coach

Morris to helm the program as a startup in 2010.  Immediately, his squads won a women's cross country conference championship and recorded a women's indoor All-American in Shannon Flynn, and the program went on an upward trajectory since. At the close of his tenure at Carroll, he had three conference coach of the year awards and four conference titles. Prior to arriving at Carroll, Morris led the men's and women's cross country teams at Western Illinois University, an NCAA Division I institution in Macomb, Ill., from 2005-10.  In his short time at the helm of the Leatherneck teams, his squads have produced three women's all-conference honorees and two male All-Summit League team selections. He led his men's team to the highest regional finish in school history in 2006 and 2008, finishing 21st both seasons. Morris coached numerous conference champions and NCAA national qualifiers during his tenure at Western Illinois, and was named WIU's men's and women's interim track and field coach in December 2009, serving in that role until his appointment at Carroll in July 2010.   Morris is a 1993 graduate of The University of Montana, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance. He completed his master's degree in Kinesiology-Exercise Science at Western Illinois in 2010.

Jason Zichterman

Assistant Coach

Zichterman is entering his fourth season as a member of the CSU-Pueblo track and field and cross country coaching staff as an assistant coach. In addition to his assistant duties, Zichterman served as the interim head track and field and cross country coach for the 2013 outdoor track and field season at CSU-Pueblo.  In that time, he was a key liasion between CSU-Pueblo and the NCAA in CSU-Pueblo's hosting of the Division II National Championships in May 2013 at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.   A former assistant at Chadron State, he coached CSC distance athletes to four school records, 16 personal bests, and five provisional national qualifiers.  Senior Joe Schultz competed at the national meet under Zichtermans tutelage, earning a spot on the final.  Zichterman, a graduate of Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., was a five-time All-American for the Cougars and a member of 3 National Championship teams.  Prior to his stint at APU, Zichterman competed at the University of Colorado from 2003-2006, running the 800 meters in a time of 1:50.18.  He was also a member of CUs 4x400m relay team that ran 3:08.86 at the NCAA Regional meet. At Gunnison High School, Zichterman set two Colorado 3A state records in the 800 (1:52.75) and the 4x400m relay (3:22.24).  He was a six-time state champion for the Cowboys. Zichterman earned his Masters Degree in Sports Management from Chadron State College in 2011.  He currently resides in Pueblo.

Jessica Horsley

Assistant Coach

Horsley oversaw a highly competitive mens and womens throw squad consisting of hammer, weight, shot put, and discus competitors. She is experienced in developing strength and conditioning workouts for throwers, recruiting high quality individuals for the sport and organizing high school/collegiate track meets. Horsley helped coach three All-American athletes, 22 national qualifiers and seven Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) champions. As a student-athlete at Chadron State, Horsley earned her own decorated career as she was an All-American in the hammer throw, finishing second at nationals. She is a  seven-time national qualifier (shot put, weight throw and hammer throw) and a two-time RMAC champion (weight throw - established RMAC record with a thwo of 19.24m - and hammer throw). Horsley owns a bachelors' degree in interdisciplinary studies and a masters degree in organizational management from Chadron State. She is a member of USTFCCCA and has atteneded two coaches conferences by the organization.
