Mark Immelman
Coach
Immelman is entering his 16th season at Columbus State University in the 2016-17 season. After 14 years of heading up the mens program, Immelman was announced as the Director of Golf in the summer of 2015, overseeing the operations of both the mens and womens programs. Immelman, a CSU alumnus, is recognized as one of the best teachers of the game worldwide. Immelman has worked steadily to rebuild the CSU program to its traditional place among the Division II elite. Immelman's squads have advanced to postseason in each of his 15 years at the helm and finished as runners-up at the National Championship in 2006, tied for fourth in 2007, and placed third in 2009. In 2011, the Cougars returned to the national tournament after a brief one-year absence and finished in 10th place. The Cougars have won a pair of Peach Belt Conference championships under Immelman, capturing the 2007 and 2016 titles. In July 2012, Immelman had his first former player reach the pinnacle of the golfing world as Andrew Georgiou participated in the 2012 Open Championship. Immelman has won numerous awards in his stint at CSU including being named the 2009 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year and the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year. He has coached 10 All-Americans, 26 All-PBC players and the 2007 PBC Golfer of the Year (Andrew Georgiou). In his four seasons playing for Columbus State, Immelman was a three-time All-American (1992, 94, 95) and a two-time Academic All-American while the Cougars won multiple national championships (1992, 94). CSU also claimed a national runner-up title in 1993. Immelman became a professional golfer before a two-year stint as a sports agent. It was not to long before Immelman learned his new passion, teaching the game of golf. At the end of 1998, Immelman returned home to South Africa to open his own golf academy in his hometown of Somerset West. In 1999, Immelman was offered the opportunity to coach on the European Tour where he stayed until his appointment as head Columbus State golf coach in 2001. In addition to his duties at Columbus State, Immelman is the main instructor at the Mark Immelman Golf Instruction working with a plethora of professionals including Trevor Immelman (younger brother, 2008 Masters Champion), Larry Mize (1998 Masters Champion), Louis Oosthuizen (2010 British Open Champion) and many other PGA, European, Nationwide and Africas Sunshine tours professionals. He also writes weekly for the PGA Tour on pgatour.com and has had articles published in the Complete Golfer and Golf Digest magazines. In addition, he has written eBooks including Scandalously Simple: The Easy Way to Accurate Golf Shots that can be found on iTunes. Also, Immelman does play-by-play broadcasting for the PGA Tour on Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio and hosts his weekly radio show On the Mark (Monday-Wednesday 12 p.m.-2 p.m.) on pgatour.com. Immelman and wife Tracy were married in 2002 and have two daughters Isabel (born 2007) and Sophia (born 2011).
