Head Coach
Isaacs is entering his 16th season as the head mens and womens tennis coach at Columbus State University in 2016-17. A former Cougar player and graduate assistant coach, Isaacs is recognized as a top instructor in the game. Isaacs has transformed the Lady Cougars into one of the premier programs in the nation. The Lady Cougars have reached the NCAA Tournament in all 15 years with Isaacs at the helm including being ranked in the top 10 for 13 straight seasons. Overall, the Lady Cougars have made eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 (2004, 2005, 2006, 2012-16) and four NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal appearances (2005, 2012, 2014, 2015). Isaacs and CSU also captured the programs first and only Peach Belt Conference regular season championship in 2006. The 2012 season was a banner year for the Columbus State womens tennis program as the Lady Cougars won 28 matches setting a new single-season win record. Isaacs coached three All-Americans in 2012 including Paola Cigui. Cigui had the best season in CSU history going 23-0 in singles action and finished the season ranked as the fifth best player in the nation. She also became the first Lady Cougar to be named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year. A season later, Cigui had another record breaking season becoming the first CSU player (male or female) to be ranked number one in the nation. She finished the season ranked second after going 22-0 and won her second consecutive PBC Player of the Year award. In 2014 and 2015, Isaacs took the Lady Cougars back to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals and coached PBC Freshman of the Year and three-time All-American Beatriz Leon. Isaacs has coached 23 All-Americans, 41 All-Conference players, two PBC Players of the Year (12, 13) and two PBC Freshmen of the Year (10, 14) on the women's side. The team is also a five-time recipient of the All-American Academic Team Award. For his teams great play in 2010 in which they went 19-6, he was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Region Womens Coach of the Year. He earned the award again in 2015 after a 23-4 season. On the mens side, Isaacs has gradually transformed the team, as he took over a winless program the year before his arrival in 2002 and has turned the team into a national powerhouse. In 2010, Isaacs led the Cougars to a 20-win season for the first time since Peach Belt Conference play started and had a magical run in the NCAA Tournament. After hosting its first ever NCAA Regional, the Cougars reached the NCAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time in school history. Isaacs led the Cougars to another banner year in 2011 winning 19 matches and hosting yet another Southeast Regional. After advancing to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season, the Cougars upset an undefeated UC San Diego squad and went on to defeated Western New Mexico to advance to their second straight national semifinal match. Also in 2011, Isaacs top duo of Christophe Noblet and Gordan Divljak finished the season ranked second in the nation according to the ITA Poll. Isaacs was also named the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Mens Coach of the Year. In 2014, the Cougars captured their first ever PBC regular season and tournament championship after a 20-6 campaign. CSU returned to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the third time in program history. Overall, Isaacs has led the mens program to 11 NCAA tournaments including nine straight appearances. He has coached 17 All-Americans, 23 All-Conference honorees and two PBC Freshmen of the Year (03, '16). The team also received the PBC Sportsmanship Award in 2010. Isaacs also earned high honors in 2014 being named the PBC Coach of the Year and ITA Southeast Region Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Prior to CSU, Isaacs was a private tennis instructor working in several different areas. From April of 1998 until his arrival in Columbus, he was the head professional at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. Prior to this, he had brief stints with Callaway Garden Resorts and Shangri-La Resort in Grove, Okal. Isaacs earned his undergraduate in Recreational Management (1995) and graduate degree in Public Administration (1997) from Columbus State. He was a two-year member of the tennis program at CSU. Isaacs played two seasons under legendary Coach Bal Moore at Jefferson State Community College. They were ranked ninth in the country in 1992 and 1993 and won the Alabama State Junior College Championship. Isaacs and wife Michelle were married in June 2002 and reside in Columbus. Michelle is a physical therapist working with Select Physical Therapy in Columbus. The couple has two daughters - Jessie, born in 2004, and Kendall, born in 2006.
