Concordia College, Moorhead Men's Wrestling

Moenkedick was named head coach of the Cobber wrestling program in the summer of 2016. Moenkedick, who had been the team's assistant coach, becomes the team's sixth head coach since 1955.    Moenkedick is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Concordia history and has been the assistant coach for the Cobbers for the past two seasons. Moenkedick is a two-time NCAA national champion, three-time All-American and is the all-time wins leader in program history. Moenkedick has had success at all levels of wrestling. He was a runner-up at the Minnesota State High School Meet for Perham high school and then flourished in college under the tutelage of Clay and Matt Nagel. Moenkedick went 135-10 in his four seasons at Concordia and had over 30 wins in three of his four years in maroon and gold. He won the NCAA title in 2010 and 2011 and was a three-time NCAA West Region champion. "I am honored to be able to carry on the tradition that Clay and Matt started," said Moenkedick. "They taught me what it was like to compete at the highest national level and I look forward to carrying on the tradition of Cobber All-Americans and high caliber student/athletes." In addition to his dominance on the mat, Moenkedick was also successful in the classroom where he earned Capital One Academic All-District Team honors in his junior and senior seasons and was a three-time Scholar All-American. Moenkedick carried a 3.50 grade point average over his four years at Concordia while majoring in Health and Physical Education. Before coming back to Concordia Phil served as an assistant coach for the Perham High School wrestling program and was a teacher at the school.  Phil currently lives in Moorhead with his wife Tara.

Nagel E-Mail: Matt Nagel is in his first season as head coach of the Cobber wrestling program. It is his sixth overall campaign as part of the Concordia coaching staff. Matt's incredible experience and knowledge as a wrestler makes him one of the most decorated coaches on the staff. Matt wrestled collegiately at the University of Minnesota where he earned All-American honors in 2005. In addition to the All-American award, he also qualified for four NCAA Championship Meets and won 100 career college matches. Matt's wrestling resume goes deeper than his career with the Gophers. He was also a five-time Minnesota State High School Champion and went on to win three Junior Greco National Championships as well as a Fila Junior Greco Championship. Matt's knowledge of the basics and his ability to teach high-level techniques make him an outstanding mentor for all weight classes. Under his brief tenure with the Cobbers, Concordia  has produced a pair of indiviual NCAA Champions as well as seven All-Americans and has been ranked in the top 25 of the nationa every single season.   Head Coach Matt Nagel E-Mail: Matt Nagel is in his first season as head coach of the Cobber wrestling program. Bio Joe Heinz was hired as an assistant coach for the Cobber wrestling program after an outstanding career as a student-athlete. Joe entered the coaching world in 2017-18 season under former Concordia national champion Phil Moenkedick. Joe wrestled for the Cobbers from 2015-18 and was a part of the NCAA Regional Championship team in 2018. He finished his senior season with 21 wins.
