Rob Vance

Head Coach

Vance, who became the all-time leader in wins within the baseball program during the 2012 season, has led the CU baseball program to eight of its 12 20-win seasons in program history, and its only three 30-win seasons. Vance recently guided the Cavs to its most successful three-year stretch ever with an average of more than 30 wins from 2013-2015. Those seasons included three straight NAIA West championship appearances and an NAIA West Tournament title in 2013 where the team advanced to the NAIA National Championships Opening Round. Vance also led the team to CCC titles in 2003 and 2004. His 2004 team won the NAIA Region I and NAIA West Coast Super Regional titles before advancing to the NAIA World Series where the team placed 8th nationally. In addition to the team success, Vance has also coached all six of the CU baseball program's NAIA All-Americans as well as  four of the teams six MLB First-Year Player draftees, including catcher Nate Esposito in 2015 (33rd round, Kansas City) and outfielder Blake Drake in 2014 (18th round, St. Louis). Vance was an assistant coach for two years at Concordia before taking the interim job in 1999. Vance has been the full-time head baseball coach at Concordia since 2000. Prior to Concordia, Vance taught physical education and health at Estacada High School for nine years. While at Estacada, Coach Vance was the head baseball coach for six years and the head football coach for four years. In 1996, Vance was named Tri-Valley Coach of the Year for baseball. While at Estacada, Vance also coached junior varsity boys basketball and freshman girls basketball.  Vance is a 1987 graduate of Pacific University with a bachelor's degree in physical education and minors in health and coaching. While at Pacific, he played football and baseball. In baseball, Vance was a two-time all-conference infielder. After completing his playing career at Pacific, he was an assistant coach from 1987 through 1990. In 1994, Vance completed his master's degree in exercise and sports science at Portland State University. In addition to his role as head baseball coach, Vance teaches in the College of Education and Exercise and Sport Science departments at Concordia, and resides in Portland with his wife, Diane.   *Vance was interim head coach during the 1999 season #Team won NAIA West Tournament Title E-Mail: NAIA / Cascade Collegiate Conference (NAIA West) Overall Conference Year W L T PCT W L T Place Postseason Season 1999* 9 27 0 .250 7 22 0 6th 1 2000 16 23 0 .400 12 18 0 4th 2 2001 17 31 2 .360 11 19 1 4th 3 2002 23 36 0 .390 13 11 0 3rd NAIA Region I (3rd) 4 2003 24 28 0 .462 11 9 0 1st NAIA Region I (2nd) 5 2004 37 22 0 .627 22 8 0 1st NAIA World Series (8th) 6 2005 23 28 0 .451 13 17 0 4th NAIA Region I (4th) 7 2006 18 33 0 .353 12 20 0 4th NAIA Region I (4th) 8 2007 18 31 0 .367 11 18 0 2nd NAIA Region I (3rd) 9 2008 16 27 0 .372 10 8 0 2nd NAIA Region I (4th) 10 2009 19 31 0 .380 13 19 0 3rd (N) 11 2010 10 34 0 .227 6 18 0 3rd (N) 12 2011 17 30 0 .362 10 22 0 4th (N) 13 2012 25 28 0 .472 15 17 0 6th NAIA West Region (3rd) 14 2013# 30 27 0 .509 15 13 0 4th NAIA Opening Round (4th) 15 2014 29 20 0 .592 16 12 0 T3rd NAIA West (2nd) 16 2015 32 23 0 .679 19 9 0 2nd NAIA West (2nd) 17 TOTALS 363 479 2 .431 216 260 0 3 Titles 2 NAIA National Tournaments NCAA DII / Great Northwest Athletic Conference Overall Conference Year W L T PCT W L T Place Postseason Year 2016 15 35 0 .300 13 27 0 5th N/A 18 Totals 15 35 0 .300 13 27 0 OVERALL 378 514 2 .423 229 287 0 18
