Assistant Coach
Hill enters his second season as head coach of the men's and women's golf team on the heels of setting several program records on the men's side in 2015-16. Hill guided the Tornado men to five event wins, punctuated by the squad's first-ever ASC Conference Championship. He was named the American Southwest Conference Men's Golf Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Division III National Coach of the Year. Seger Howell was the individual medalist at the event, becoming the second consecutive CTX golfer to win the event and the first freshman champion. Howell was later selected a PING Division III All-American. Hill has put much of the same expectations on both the men's and women's teams entering the 2016-17 season. Previously, Hill spent one season at Division I member University of the Pacific, where he helped turn the Tigers mens team around academically. Under his tutelage, Pacific posted top-10 finishes in nearly all events played including seven top-five team finishes. Individually, Hills squad boasted nine top-five and 16 top-10 individuals across 2014-15. Additionally, Hill coached the 2015 Palmer Cup U.S. team. The Palmer Cup, organized by Arnold Palmer, is an annual event that features the 10 best amateurs from both the U.S. and Europe in a head-to-head competition. Originally from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, Hill returned to Texas after he helped lead the University of Houston to a 10th-place national finish at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 2014, he completed his fourth season with the Cougars and second season as the associate head coach of the men's team. Hill was honored in April as the recipient of the 2014 Jan Strickland Award, presented to the nation's top assistant coach by Taylor Made-Adidas Golf as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). It marked the second straight season that Hill was recognized as one of the nation's top assistant coaches. He was also honored as one of eight semifinalists in 2013. As Houston's associate head coach, he assisted director of golf Jonathan Dismuke in all aspects of the team, including practice scheduling, recruiting, scheduling and student-athlete development. He is a member of the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) and GCAA. In addition to the outstanding performance at the NCAA Championships in 2013-14, Chris helped the Cougars to a third place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships, and four regular season tournament victories. Houston was ranked in the preseason top 25, and climbed into the top 10 in the spring in the Golfweek/Sagarin, Golfstat and Golf World/Nike Coaches polls all season. Houston also enjoyed tremendous success during the 2012-13 season. As a team, the Cougars finished among the top-five leaders in each of their first eight tournaments with wins at the Lone Star Invitational and the Border Olympics. In late April, Hill helped lead the Cougars to the Conference USA Championship team and individual titles for the first time since 2001. With that, the program also returned to NCAA Regional play for the second consecutive season. Sophomore Roman Robledo drained a 30-foot birdie on the final hole of the final round to clinch the team championship for the Cougars and the individual title for himself. Robledo and junior Curtis Reed were named to the All-Conference USA First Team, while junior Wesley McClain earned a place on the Second Team. During the 2011-12 season, Hill helped lead the Cougars back to the NCAA postseason as a team and guided the squad to 11 top-10 team finishes, including a share of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic championship. In the spring season alone, the Cougars earned top-three finishes at the Rice Intercollegiate and the Border Olympics. Joining the Cougars in August 2010, Hill helped lead the Cougars to one of their most successful seasons in recent history. Playing with a lineup that featured four true freshmen and a sophomore in his first semester at Houston, the Cougars recorded five top-five and seven top-10 team finishes throughout the season. Hill joined the Cougar program after a two-year stint as the men's and women's assistant coach at Houston Baptist. In 2009-10, the HBU women's team won the Great West Conference championship by 21 strokes. In his first season, he helped lead the men's team to a pair of tournament wins, including the inaugural 2009 Great West Conference championship. His work also led to five All-Conference performers during the program's first year of existence. In 2008-09, the women's team also finished as the runner-up at the GWC Championship, and Hill worked closely with two student-athletes who were named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team. Prior to joining Houston Baptist, Hill worked as a certified instructor and director of college placement at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., in 2007-08. There he worked under the guidance of legendary instructor Hank Haney and mentored many of the nation's top junior golfers. Hill also appeared as a regular on the Golf Channel reality series School of Golf, which detailed the lives of junior golfers in their efforts to turn professional or play collegiate golf. Following his collegiate playing days, he entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at Wayne State, his alma mater, in 2006-07. During that time, he also worked as the lead instructor and assistant pro at Western Golf and Country Club in Redford, Mich. Hill was a four-year letterman at Wayne State from 2002-06. There, he helped lead the Warriors to the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and the 2005 Great Lakes Regional No. 3 crown. Hill was a member of the Wayne State Student-Athlete Committee from 2002 to 2006 and served as captain of the golf team during the 2005-06 season. Hill received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Wayne State in 2007. He and his wife Alyssa have two children and reside in Austin. He is currently working on a master's degree at Concordia University Texas.
