Concordia University WI Women's Basketball

Stacey Brunner-Jones, the winningest coach in Concordia University Wisconsin women’s basketball history, completed her 21st season at the helm in 2024–25. Since taking over the program, Brunner-Jones has guided the Falcons to seven conference titles, two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, and four Conference Coach of the Year honors (2006–07, 2007–08, 2015–16, 2016–17). Under her leadership, CUW has become a perennial contender in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), reaching the conference tournament nearly every season. Brunner-Jones has coached 57 all-conference honorees, including standout players like Brianna Wagner—a four-time All-NACC selection and the only NCAA-era Falcon to surpass 1,000 points, 650 rebounds, 150 assists, 125 blocks, and 100 steals—as well as Audrey Scharmer, Katie Luethe (2013–14 NACC Player of the Year), Krista Mayyou (CUW Hall of Fame inductee), and Stacey Rusch (CUW Hall of Fame inductee). In recent seasons, the Falcons have maintained their standard of success. CUW finished third in the NACC in 2025, led by two-time All-NACC selection Aubrey DeBauch. In 2024, DeBauch was named First Team All-NACC, and Erin Viergutz earned Second Team honors. Both players, along with Madeline Taubenheim, were also recognized as CSC Academic All-District selections. The 2023 campaign featured a 16-11 overall record and a 14-4 mark in NACC play, with a conference semifinal appearance and CSC Academic All-America honors for Emily Hafemann. Brunner-Jones achieved her 300th career victory during the shortened 2020–21 season and has consistently led one of the top defensive teams in the league. Her 2018–19 squad reached the NACC Tournament title game for the second straight year and broke multiple program records, including 3-point field goals made (204), 3-point percentage (38.3), and free throw percentage (73.6). CUW's strong run through the 2010s included back-to-back regular-season NACC championships in 2015–16 and 2016–17. The 2015–16 team set the single-season record for defensive field goal percentage (36.7), while the 2016–17 team led the league in both scoring defense and field goal percentage. One of Brunner-Jones’s hallmark seasons came in 2008–09, when CUW went 23-6, won the NAC Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In just her second season at the helm, she orchestrated a 19-9 turnaround. Over her 21-year career, she has led the Falcons to numerous 20-win seasons and more than 300 victories. A 1995 graduate of Mt. Horeb High School, Brunner-Jones was a three-time all-conference player and a member of a state runner-up team. She went on to play at Winona State University, where she was a two-year starter. Before arriving at CUW, she held assistant coaching roles at Loras College and Winona State. Kasey Kleiner completed her fourth season as the assistant coach in the 2024-25 season.  Before coming to Concordia, Kleiner was at Knox College as the women’s basketball assistant and a part of the strength and conditioning staff. She also spent two years as the women’s basketball assistant at Carthage College. Kleiner also held a graduate assistant position for women’s basketball with Carthage for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Kleiner was also an assistant coach and JV coach at Culver Stockton College.  She is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and USA Weight Lifting Certified. During her playing days at Carthage, she was named team captain, MVP, and earned the Scholar Award and All-Conference honors. She made appearances in the quarterfinals, second round, and third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament and was also a part of two conference championships. Kleiner earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise and sport science from Carthage in 2015 and her Master of Education in educational leadership from Carthage in 2017. She is a graduate of Shoreland Lutheran High School.
