Mark Duble
Head Coach
Duble will begin his 27th season as the Lady Scots head soccer coach in the 2021 season. He is the longest-tenured coach and athletic administrator at Covenant. Duble also serves as an Associate Director of Athletics. He began coaching the Lady Scots club team in 1993 before the program became varsity in 1994. He "grew up" at Covenant, as his father was a Vice President for Advancement at Covenant College in the 1960s and 1970s, and he played for, and captained, the Scots soccer team as a player. In 27 seasons with the Lady Scots his squads have compiled a 283-176-36 overall record. The 2006 team won the NAIA regional to advance to the NAIA national tournament for the first time in school history. Duble has earned a conference Coach of the Year award six times, and a regional Coach of the Year award in 2004 and 2005. In his 27 seasons, Duble's teams have finished at or above .500 24 times. All told, during Dubles tenure as head coach, the program has produced 33 All-Americans, two national tournament appearances (one in the NAIA and one in the NCCAA), and 12 total conference championships spanning both the NAIA and NCAA. In addition to the tremendous on-field success, 67 players have earned national scholar-athlete awards from either the NCAA, NAIA or the NCCAA. Duble's teams are regularly recipients of the NSCAA Team Academic Award for their excellence as a group in the classroom. Additionally, over the last eight years Duble's teams have collected 146 USA South All-Academic honors, including a program-record 20 in the 2015-16 academic year. The 2015 edition of Duble's team had its best conference finish since joining the USA South as the Lady Scots placed fifth in the regular season with an 8-3-1 record. Overall, Covenant went 10-5-1 on the year marking the fifth time in the last six seasons the Lady Scots have won at least 10 matches and finished .500 or better. In 2012, the Lady Scots posted a 15-5-1 record and 9-1 in GSAC play which earned them a share of the conference regular season title, a first at the NCAA Division III level. The 15 wins was tied for the second most in school history. Covenant placed seven players on the All-Conference team and had two NCCAA All-Americans (Kathryn Allison and Katelyn Newsome). Active in professional coaching organizations, he has served ten years as the conference soccer chair, five as regional chair two years as NCAA Regional ranking committee, and two years as the NAIA Womens Soccer National President. He and his wife Lynn, also a Covenant alum and former athlete herself, have been married for 32 years, and have five children: Allen, Chelsey, Charles, Faith, and JohnMark.
