Chris Wiemers

Assistant Coach

Wiemers, the head teaching professional at Happy Hollow Club in Omaha, has been named head men's golf coach at Creighton, Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen announced today (June 19, 2009). Wiemers replaces Bob Hanson, who resigned in late April after two seasons with the program. "Chris has great passion for the game, is a tremendous teacher who also can help our golfers with golf course management, and has high character," said Rasmussen. "We are excited to have him on our staff." Wiemers has spent the past three years at Happy Hollow as the head teaching professional, where he is responsible for all golf-related instruction for a membership with over 350 golf members and over 400 social members. He also helped oversee a flourishing junior golf program with over 140 participants. Prior to heading across town to Happy Hollow, he had spent the previous eight years as the head golf pro and general manager at Eagle Run Golf Course. Wiemers also owns a distinguished background as one of the top players throughout Nebraska, finishing in the top-five in the Nebraska Sectional Player of the Year standings each of the last eight years. He's also qualified for and played in two of golf's majors, the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol and the 2006 PGA Championship at Medinah. Wiemers has played in four Nationwide Tour events, including a top-50 finish in 2005 at the Cox Classic in Omaha. A native of McCook, Neb., Wiemers has competed in the PGA Tour's grueling Qualifying School three times and tied for 12th at the 2006 PGA of America's Professional National Championship. He and his wife, Mackenzie, have five children.
