Natalie Desjardins

Head Coach

Desjardins enters her fourth season as head coach of the LIU Brooklyn women's golf team in 2014-15. A former individual champion in the Northeast Conference, Desjardins has led her alma mater to three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament in her first three seasons at the helm. This past year, the Blackbirds won their third straight NEC title by a decisive 26 strokes thanks to a final-round 296 that was the best round by a team in the field. Sophomore Marisol Doglioli put together an historic final-round 66 en route to medalist honors. In 2012-13, LIU had an impressive regular season that saw the squad earn four team tournament titles including their second-straight NEC Championship. The Blackbirds led following all three rounds at NECs, and finished 12 strokes ahead of the field for the third title in program history. Four members of the squad earned postseason honors. Freshman Marisol Doglioli was named Rookie of the Year and to the All-NEC First team, along with sophomore Cristina Felip. Sophomore Alice Boothroyd and Brianna Maynard both earned spots on the All-NEC Second Team. In her first season as head coach, Desjardins molded a team that consisted of two battle-tested seniors and three unproven freshmen into a conference champion. LIU Brooklyn trailed by nine strokes heading into the final day of play, but responded with a tournament-best round of 298 to finish five strokes ahead of second-place Fairleigh Dickinson. The tournament win also earned the Blackbirds a berth into the NCAA East Regional. For her efforts, Desjardins was named the NEC Coach of the Year. Freshman Cristina Felip, who earned medalist honors at the NEC Tournament, was named the league's Rookie of the Year.   One of the most decorated golfers in LIU history, Desjardins won the Northeast Conference Individual Championship in 2010. She was named to the All-NEC First Team that season for a third time, just one year removed from earning NEC Player of the Year accolades. Desjardins was also named NEC Rookie of the Year in 2006.   I am thrilled and excited to return to my alma mater as head coach, Desjardins said upon being hired. It is a tremendous honor to be back with a program with a strong tradition of excellence and I will look to continue that tradition. Its a great opportunity for me to coach a team that has such strong support from the administration to the provost to the president.   The Haileybury, Ontario, native had eight individual tournament wins under her belt during her time as a Blackbird, including three wins at the Mount St. Marys Invitational. Desjardins also claimed the top spot at the 2009 Lonnie Barton Invitational, a tournament named in memory of LIUs former golf coach.   After graduating from Long Island in 2010 with a bachelors degree in political science, Desjardins worked as an instructor at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood, N.J. In October 2010, she went to qualifying school for the LPGA Futures Tour, and went on to spend the winter of 2011 in Florida playing on the SunCoast Tour. Desjardins also served as an assistant coach at Monmouth for the 2010-11 season.
