Hodnett enters his 17th year with the LIU Brooklyn track and field and cross country programs in 2015-16. After serving as assistant coach for eight seasons, Hodnett took over as head track and field coach in 2007. As an assistant coach, Hodnett helped elevate the program to levels not seen at the Brooklyn campus prior to their arrival. He has continued that success in his new position and has been named Northeast Conference Coach for the Year three times over the last four years. During the 2013-14 indoor season, the mens track and field team brought back the NEC Championships trophy for the second time in program history, with seven athletes winning individual titles. The women finished in the runner-up spot. In the 2014 outdoor season, the women won the NEC Championships for the first time since 2006, while the men placed second. Hodnett had three athletes advance to the NCAA Championships over the course of the 2014-15 season and his staff was named the Nrotheast Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. He helped Brendon Rodney earn Second Team All-America status in the indoor 200-meter dash for the second straight season. Rodney was also an Honorable Mention All-American after the outdoor NCAA Championships. Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme was named a Second Team All-American for his performance in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Both the mens and womens track and field teams placed second at the 2013 NEC Indoor Championships, while the men were also second at the Outdoor Championships and the women were fourth. Hodnetts athletes earned All-America honors three teams in the 2012-13 season. In 2012, the womens track and field team was the runner-up at both the indoor and outdoor NEC Championships, while the men was second at the outdoor and tied for third at the indoor. The womens indoor track and field team took the top conference title for the second year in a row in 2011, while the men finished third. During the outdoor season, the women placed third while the men were fifth. Hodnetts teams swept the indoor NEC Championships in 2010, including the first title for the mens program, and were runners-up in the 2010 outdoor track championships. In four seasons as head coach, Hodnett has seen over 80 athletes earn All-Conference honors.   Hodnett has also established the teams strength and conditioning program and is responsible for recruiting, assisting with team travel and purchasing equipment. He has helped expand the Long Island recruiting base outside of the United States, bringing in athletes from places such as Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Kenya, Canada and Uganda.   After aiding the Blackbirds in their pursuit of back-to-back Northeast Conference womens indoor championships, Hodnett was named the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003.   Hodnett had an integral role in the Blackbirds repeating as NEC indoor champions in 2003. In his time at the school, Long Island has won a total of seven conference titles, including another pair of back-to-back NEC womens indoor titles in 2006 and 2007.   During the 2006 campaign, he helped Bryan Steele finish second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.02 at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Steeles performance garnered All-America honors for the second time in his career. He became only the second male athlete in program history to earn All-America honors in track and field. The other, Richard James, also ran for Hodnett and finished eighth in the 400-meter dash at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.   Hodnett arrived at Long Island following an impressive five-year run as an assistant mens coach at his alma mater, Norfolk State from 1994-1999. Working closely with the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and relay teams, he was instrumental in developing five All-Americans in his final year at the school. During his stay, the squad captured six Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association team championships along with a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships.   Hodnett graduated from Norfolk State in 1994 with a bachelors degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management. He was a five-time CIAA Division II champion as a member of the sprint, hurdle and relay teams. Hodnett received his masters degree in health science from Long Island in 2005.
