Kenny Trapp
Head Coach
Trapp was recognized as the Heartland Conference Coach of the Year and also garnered West Regional Coach of the Year honors by the Womens Golf Coaches Association. The women's program has been ranked inside the top 18 on Golfstat for the past four seasons and as high as No. 4 in the country. Trapp has also led the women's program to 20 wins and 22 individual titles, while the men's team has accounted for eight individual wins and eight team wins. Since taking over the DBU Golf program, Trapp has led six men's teams to the NCAA Super Regional Tournament dating back to 2009 and the women's team to four Regional appearances. Trapp has also helped guide both the men's and women's teams to Heartland Conference titles in 2013 and 2015 and in 2016 for the men. Dating back to 2010, Trapp has signed 10 top-20 high school recruits from Texas and the top player out the state of Oklahoma in 2015, Brinn Fariss, and the top player out of Arkansas in 2016, Addison Mitchell. This past year, Trapp brought in freshman Ann Parmerter, who is the first First Team All-American in program history, while also being named the NCAA National Freshman of the Year. Parmerter was ranked No. 2 in the country on Golfstat. Trapp also recruited the likes of All-American, Mercedes Rios, who advanced to back-to-back trips to the NCAA National Championship, where she finished 14th overall in 2013. Rios was also an eight-time individual medalist and was ranked amongst the top-25 collegiate golfers in the country. Sydney Williams earned All-American honors in 2013, 2015, and 2016 as well as being named the Heartland Conferences Freshman of the Year in her first season at DBU. Williams is the first player in program history to earn All-American for three years and was ranked in the top 10 by Golfstat rankings in 2016. Erin Barrington also garnered All-American honors in 2014. Trapp has also coached six NCAA All Americans since 2013. On the mens team, Garrett Fey won three consecutive Heartland Conference titles in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and was a three-time First Team All-Heartland Conference selection. Fey was also named to the Golf Coaches Association of Americas All-Region team in 2015 and 2016 and garnered GCAA All-American Scholar honors in 2015. Fey also became the first NCAA All American in program history in 2016. Trapp has led six men's teams to NCAA Super Regional post-season appearances (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016) and six individuals to NCAA post-season championship competition. In just 11 years, Trapp has coached eight players on the mens and womens teams who were named Freshman of the Year in the Heartland Conference and an additional 41 All-Heartland Conference selections. Trapp is a four-time NCCAA National Golf Coach of the Year (2009, 2011, 2012, and 2015) and has led the womens and mens golf teams to the NCCAA National Championship resulting in consecutive women's titles in 2011-2012, as well as a title in 2015. He also guided the men's team to a NCCAA title in 2009. Three Lady Patriots have clinched individual women's titles, including Erin Barrington in 2012 and 2014 and Christian Curnutte in 2015. In 2012, Trapp was actively involved in raising the funds to build a 5,000 square foot practice facility on the campus of Dallas Baptist University. Trapp was born in Texas City, and graduated from Texas City High School in 1996. He later played baseball for San Jacinto Junior College, Alvin Community College, and finally transferred to Dallas Baptist University. As captain of the Patriot Baseball team for two years, Trapp led the nation in saves in 2000 (12) as well as wins (14) in 2001. He led the Patriots to two consecutive NAIA World Series appearances in 2000 and 2001 and was drafted three different times. The final time he was drafted in the 26th round by the Boston Red Sox and played three years of minor league baseball. Trapp and his wife Reba, a 2003 DBU graduate, have one daughter, Kennedy, who was born on January 27, 2010, and a son, Konnor, born on January 9, 2013. They live in Midlothian, Texas, and attend First Baptist Church Midlothian.
