Tim Wunderlich

Head Coach

Wunderlich helped Dartmouth's Kaitlin Whitehorn to the high jump titles during both the indoor and outdoor Heps meets. In the outdoor season, Whitehorn qualified for Nationals, placing 12th and earning All-America Second-Team honors under the guidance of Wunderlich. He also guided student-athletes to stong showings in multis over the course of both seasons. In 2014, Wunderlich qualified for both the indoor and outdoor USATF Championships in the decathlon and heptathlon, finishing 12th in the former and sixth in the latter. The previous year, the Westminster, Maryland, native represented his country as part of Team USA at the 2013  Pan American Combined Events Cup, placing fifth in the decathlon. Wunderlich had his best season as a Dartmouth coach in 2016 as Kaitlin Whitehorn won both the indoor and outdoor Heptagonal championship in the high jump. After each Ivy title, Whitehorn would go on to earn All-American First Team status at the NCAA Championships, taking seventh during the indoor season and third during the outdoor campaign. Whitehorn became the first Dartmouth woman ever to win three outdoor titles in the high jump and the first ever to win three in a row as well. In all, she finished her collegiate career with six titles in the event. Under Wunderlichs coaching, Whitehorn would go on to compete in the 2016 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, where she would smash her own Dartmouth record and finish fifth, just missing out on a shot at going to Rio. Wunderlichs hiring was a homecoming of sorts for the 2009 graduate with a degree in human biology. As a student-athlete, the Westminister, Maryland, native was an Ivy League champion in the decathlon as a junior and was honored with the Everett L. Palmer Award as a senior for his contributions to the program. As a member of the Big Green, Wunderlich was also a 2008 Academic All-Ivy League selection and was three-time second team all-conference student-athlete between javelin and the decathlon. In 2012, Wunderlich posted the 23rd-best mark in the US in the decathlon, achieving the Olympic Trials "B" standard with a score of 7,636 points. Upon his graduation, Wunderlich went on to serve as a volunteer assistant coach at Johns Hopkins (2009-10), a graduate assistant coach at Central Missouri (2010-12) and, most recently, as an assistant at Marietta since August 2012. While in Ohio the last two years, he worked closely with all individuals in the jumps and multis events as well as javelin throwers.

Barry Harwick

Assistant Coach

Harwicks position of head coach has been endowed due to the generosity of Herbert and Marge Chase. Herb, a member of the class of 1930, was a manager of the team as an undergraduate and then a track and field official for many years. The Chase endowment was the first for any athletic program at Dartmouth. This very special support will add to the prestige of a program that has been in existence at the college for over a century.  Prior to the 2014-15 academic year, it was announced that Harwick would assume the role as the The Marjorie and Herbert Chase 30 Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, overseeing both the men's and women's programs. Harwicks teams have enjoyed tremendous success at Dartmouth. In cross country, Dartmouth won Heptagonal titles in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2006. The squad has also advanced to the NCAA championships in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2006 and 2013. In 1994, the Big Green won the Heps with record-low 23 points, as well as the New England and NCAA District 1 championships. In track, the Big Green won the New England outdoor championship in 1994 and 1995 and were runner-ups in 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2007.                  Several athletes under his guidance have earned numerous All-American honors in cross country and track. In the spring of 2007, one of Harwicks athletes, Ben True 08, became the first Dartmouth runner to break the 4:00 barrier in the mile.   In his first year at Dartmouth, Harwick also coached the Big Greens womens squad. The team, led by future All-American and former Dartmouth coach Maribel Souther, qualified for the NCAA championships In 1997, he served as head coach of the United States cross country team at the world championships in Turin, Italy. After graduating from Dartmouth, Harwick continued his academic work at the University of Pittsburgh where he served as a graduate assistant while earning a masters degree in Education.      In 1980, Harwick took over as head coach for track and cross country at Bentley College, leading the Falcons to six Northeast-10 cross country titles and coaching several New England champions, All-America and Academic All-America runners in his 12-year tenure. He was honored as Coach of the Year by the Northeast-10, ECAC, and NCAA District 1 in that time. Harwick also started the womens cross country and track programs and directed the schools physical education program.      Harwick served as the president of the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association from 2011-13. He was president of the Heptagonal Coaches Group from 2002-04. In 1989, Harwick traveled to Pakistan as part of the USIA Sports America program, conducting clinics for coaches and athletes of the Pakistani national team in Islamabad. In 1996, 2000, 2004 and again in 2013, Harwick led a group of Dartmouth athletes on a two-week trip to England where they competed against British Universities. During the summer, Harwick is director of the Gold Medal Running Camp at Dartmouth.       Harwick captained the track team while a student at Dartmouth; earning All-Ivy honors in cross country and running in two NCAA championships. He held the school record in the mile and was a member of two relay teams that established school marks. As a senior, he won the Harmon Award for distance running and the Palmer Award for contributions to Dartmouth track. His other activities included the Casque and Gauntlet Senior Society and the student newspaper, The Dartmouth.   Harwick and his wife, Marcia Kelly, live in Hanover with their sons Benjamin and Christopher. Kelly is Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Dartmouth and is an honorary member of the class of 1977. Harwick still runs regularly and won the 1995 World Veterans Championship in the 5000.   Harwick's Career Heptagonal Champions * - Set Record

Jeff Forino

Assistant Coach

Forino coached Emmaline Berg 13 at the 2016 Indoor USA Championships. Scott Phelps

Assistant Coach

Phelps assists the Big Green coaching staff in day-to-day operations, while working closely with student-athletes on both the men's and women's sides. In his first season with the Green and White, Phelps was a key member of the staff working with middle distance and distance runners. First-Team All-Ivy League showings from Will Geoghegan 15 and Phil Royer 13 highlighted Phelps' first Heptagonal Cross Country meet in November 2012. Since coming to Dartmouth, Phelps has worked with several student-athletes who have gone on to achieve high levels of success. In 2014, one of those individuals was Megan Krumpoch 14, who earned First Team All-America honors in the 800m during both the indoor and outdoor seasons at the NCAA Championships. Krumpoch also won the indoor Heps title in the indoor 800m as a senior in 2014 and was a member of the 4x800m relay team that won Heps championships in both the indoor and outdoor meets that year with the help of Phelps. Under Phelps guidance, numerous Dartmouth student-athletes have earned All-Ivy honors and secured points for the Big Green at championship events as well as post top-five times in their respective events in Dartmouths all-time record books. As an assistant coach with the cross country programs, Phelps has helped direct the Big Green womens team to a pair of Ivy titles in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, he has worked with individual champions as well as several All-Ivy First and Second Team runners. As a member of the Longhorns' staff for two years, Phelps was a part of a cross country program that reached the National Championship meet in consecutive seasons. In both years, Texas produced the top freshman finisher; a product of Phelps' guidance throughout the fall. During his time in the Lone Star State, Phelps also contributed to the men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams that finished third nationally in the Program of the Year field. His time in Austin also saw Phelps work directly with two All-Americans and All-Big 12 Performers as well as help the coaching staff produce the nation's top recruiting class in 2011. A 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois, Phelps was a four-year letterwinner in all three seasons of competition.
