Davenport University Men's Wrestling

Boyd enters his third season as the head coach of the Davenport wrestling program. He came to Davenport from nearby Grand Rapids West Catholic High School where he was the head coach from 2010-2014. In addition, he has coached at the collegiate level as well as competed at the NCAA DI level at the University of Notre Dame. In the inaugural season of the wrestling program, he coached National Champions in Zack Yate and Glenn Geurink. In the second season, DU went 3-5 in dual matches with wins over Grand Valley State, Calumet College of St. Joseph and University of the Ozarks. Dillon Francisco qualified for the NAIA Nationals and narrowly missed the quarterfinals in the 184-pound class. A 1993 graduate of Notre Dame, Boyd earned his degree in Business Administration while competing and earning three varsity letters in wrestling. A fifth-year senior transfer to Central Michigan University, Boyd competed one year for the Chippewas and earned All-MAC honors in 1994. In addition, Boyd obtained a Master of Science in Administration (MSA) degree in 2007 from Central Michigan. Boyds coaching career stretches back to Central Michigan where he served one year as an assistant coach for the Chippewas before spending numerous seasons coaching at various levels with the most recent at Grand Rapids West Catholic. Boyd has also spent time coaching within the successful programs at Mount Pleasant High School and Birmingham Brother Rice.   As a high school wrestler, Boyd had a standout career placing four times in the MHSAA State Finals, twice as a State Champion, and earned All-American Honors twice.
