Murray enters his seventh season as head coach of the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen. Over the last four seasons, Murray has earned the ASCA Coaching Excellence Award (2011-2012-2013) while also claiming NSISC Womens Coach of the Year (2013 and 2014), Co-Men's Swimming Coach of the Year (2014) and Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors (2015 and 2016). The Lady Statesmen won the NSISC Championship in 2013, their first title in 11 seasons and repeated in 2014 as champions. After claiming their first NSISC Championship since 2004, in 2015, the Statesmen claimed their second-straight title in 2016. Over the last two seasons, the Greensboro, N.C. native helped guide the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen to their best finishes in program history. The Statesmen finished in 5th place in 2016, while the Lady Statesmen were ninth in 2015. Murray also served nine years as head coach of the Delta Aquatic Club, an age group program based in Cleveland. During his tenure as DAC head coach, Murray helped guide the program through a major growth spurt that helped launch programs in Greenville and Tunica, while increasing participation from 50 swimmers in 2005 to over 200. He began his career 15 years ago as a summer league coach before moving into USA Swimming 11 years ago. A member of USA Swimming since 2003, Murray has guided the Mississippi All-Star Zone Team for the past four seasons as head coach. Kyle Friesenhahn
Assistant Coach
Friesenhahn enters his fourth season as an assistant for the Delta State swimming and diving teams and the second as a full-time coach for Dan'l Murray. Friesenhahn will serve as Murray's primary assistant while continuing to coach DSU's divers. In 2015-16 all four Statesmen divers achieved the NCAA qualifying standard, and competed at the NCAA Prequalifying Meet at the NCAA Championsihps. Matthew Swaine helped the Statesmen, as he scored points by finishing 13th in the 1-Meter competition at the NCAA Championships. In 2013-14, Friesenhahn served as a graduate assistant on Murray's staff while helping lead the Lady Statesmen to a second consecutive New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference title. He also helped guide the Statesmen to their first NSISC Championship since 2004. In his first year with DSU three diving records were broken and two Statesmen qualified for the NCAA National Championship. Matt Swaine finished the year on a high note, capturing 12th place in 1-Meter and 17th in 3-Meter diving at the NCAA championships. Connor Bennett qualified for nationals, but did not compete. Prior to coming to DSU, Friesenhahn served on the staff at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. From 2009 to 2013, Friesenhahn held the positions of assistant coach and head diving coach. The accomplishments of his student-athletes reads like a highlight real for the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association member school. While coaching at Lindenwood, Friesenhahn also served as head diving coach and assistant swimming coach at Fort Zumwalt High School in St. Charles, Missouri. The six-year collegiate coaching veteran has two degrees from Lindenwood University, earning a bachelor's in mass communications and a master's in business administration.
