Denison University Men's Golf

Butt returns for his seventh season as the head men's golf coach at Denison University in 2016-17. in 2015, Denison finished fourth in the final North Coast Athletic Conference standings after being led by all-region performer, Jimmy Slovitt who averaged 74.6 strokes per 18-hole round.  Slovitt posted six, top-5 finishes and tied his career-low with two rounds of 69. In 2011-12, Butt led Denison to a third-place finish in the overall standing of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series.  Sophomores Dylan Lee and Klimchuk, and freshman Dylan Francis all earned second-team All-NCAC honors. In his first season leading the Big Red, his squad rallied in the final round of the last NCAC Championship Series event to place third in the overall standings.  Senior Kyle Bates and first-year's Aaron Klimchuk and Dylan Lee were all named to the all-conference squad. Butt served as the assistant mens golf coach at Denison from 2003 through 2010.  In his first season as an assistant with the Big Red, Denison received their second consecutive NCAA Division III Championship Tournament invitation and the team went on to a 14th place national finish. Prior to his seven seasons as the assistant coach at Denison, Butt spent 14 years as the head mens golf coach at Granville High School where he led the Blue Aces to nine consecutive Mid-State League titles between 1991-99.  During that span, Granville posted a 232-5 record.  He coached Granville to a state runner-up finish in 1995 before breaking through with the schools first state championship in any sport in 1996.  Butt is a nine-time MSL coach of the year, a three-time Central District coach of the year and was tabbed the Newark Advocate Coach of the Year for Golf, seven times.  He has also been an active member of the PGA of America since 1985.
