Head Coach

Spinger was named the first women's wrestling coach in Dickinson State History prior to the 2023-24 season and in his first year he led the team to a 5-1 record in dual meets and sent the program's first ever national qualifier to the NAIA Women's Wrestling Championships. Previously, he was the Head Men's Wrestling Coach at Doane University, Hastings College, and Ellsworth Community College, and he worked as an assistant coach at both Dickinson State University and North Idaho Junior College. His coaching tenure has seen the development of several NAIA All-Americans and one Junior College National Champion. Springer has had a distinguished career both as a wrestler and a coach. During his high school years, he was a 4-time Washington State Placer, a 3-time State Finalist, and ultimately became a State Champion, boasting an impressive 138-8 overall record. His amateur wrestling accolades include being crowned the Asic Fargo Cadet National Champion. At the college level, he earned the status of 3-time All-American, was a 2-time NAIA National Finalist, and clinched the title of NAIA National Champion.Springer currently resides in Dickinson with his wife, Mckenzie, and four children: Brody (18), Kade (11), Gentry (4), and Boston (2).

Hayden Wempen

Assistant Coach

Hayden Wempen born (July 18, 200) was raised in Riverton, Wyoming by his grandparents Les and Nancy Wempen. Andy Wempen, Hayden's older brother influenced him at a young age to start wrestling, also coached him throughout high school. The Wyoming native was a state champion and a triple crown winner in 2016. Hayen started his college career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado where he graduated with an Associate's Degree in Psychology and became an All-American, finishing 3rd at 184 lbs in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2020. Following junior college, Hayden committed to Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. During his time at MVC Wempen became an NAIA All-American with an 8th place finish at 184 lbs in the national meet. His final stop was Morningside University where he became a 5x national qualifier and a 2x regional champion before graduating with a B.A. in Developmental Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. Hayden is extremely excited about starting his coaching career at DSU and is ready to give back to a sport that he has dedicated his life to.
