4th Year as Head Softball Coach Hometown: Wichita, Kansas College(s): Fort Hays State University Mike Viramontez enters his fourth year leading the Dodge City CC softball program as head coach. In his third season leading the Conquistadors he led the program to an historic season as the team recorded the most wins in a season in program history finishing 46-19 on the season. The 2026 team won the Region 6 and Plains District titles marking only the third time in program history, qualifying them for the NJCAA Division I World Series. The team broke several school records including single season team records for hits, runs scored, RBI, walks, doubles, triples, home runs, stolen bases, and slugging percentage with four individual reocrds broken also. The historic season earned Coach Viramontez KJCCC DI Coach of the Year honors for the 2026 season. Year two under Coach Viramontez the Conqs saw a 14-win improvement from 2024 his first season as the team finished 27-28 and 18-14 in KJCCC action. The Conqs 27 wins were the most since 2005 season and the winning KJCCC record was the first conference winning record since the 2019 season. In his first season leading the Conqs the team posted a 13-33 record and 11-21 in KJCCC play. The Conqs went 2-2 in the Region 6 Tournament to finish fourth in the region in 2024. Thirteen Conqs have earned KJCCC All-Conference honors in his three seasons leading the program. While Harley Shoaf was recognized by the NFCA for All-Region honors earning first-team at second base in the 2026 season. The Kansas native came to Dodge City after most recently working at Oklahoma State University where he was working as a graduate assistant for the 2023 season with the OSU Cowgirls softball program under OSU Head Coach, Kenny Gajewski. Viramontez also worked as a volunteer assistant coach at OSU from 2015-2017. In 2016 and 2017 he was part of the OSU teams that made the postseason, and both finished as regional runner-ups and helped coach several All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Big 12 players along with being part of teams that broke several school records. In the 2023 season, he was part of the OSU team that posted a 47-16 record that won Regional and Super Regional titles, qualifying for the Women’s College World Series where they finished fifth. In between his two stints on the Cowgirls coaching staff, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of North Texas from 2018-2021 (August). While at North Texas the Mean Green won the Conference USA regular season title in 2019 and 2021, along with setting the best record in school history (38-12 in 2021). While in 2020 he was also part of the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited League serving as one of the league's facilitators helping lead the league and oversee the competition. His first collegiate head coaching position came at the NCAA Division II level at Newman University in Wichita. After working as an assistant coach (2013-14) for the Newman Jets he took over the program during 2014-15 and led them to 17 wins what was the best season in school history in DII at the time, coaching a pair of All-Heartland Conference honorees, and led the team to their first conference tournament appearance since 2011. His coaching career also includes being assistant coach for the Wichita Mustangs Academy (2013), assistant coach at Southern Arkansas University (2012-13), general manager and head instructor at Balls N’ Strikes Hitting facility, assistant baseball coach at Bishop Carroll high school, and assistant/head coach at Andale high school. As head coach at Andale in 2011 he led the team to a 20-4 record, while he was assistant coach for the 2008 state runner-up team at Andale. While at Bishop Carroll he helped the team to a 24-3 record and Class 5A State title as an assistant coach. Viramontez played one season of college baseball at Dodge City Community College in 2005 eventually transferring to Newman and finishing college at Fort Hays State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in human health promotion.

Brett Rojas
Head Coach
2nd year as Head Spirit Squad Coach (6th year on staff) Hometown: Texas City, Texas College: Blinn College & Sam Houston State University Brett Rojas is in his sixth year at Dodge City on the spirit squad coaching staff taking over as head coach in May 2025, while serving as an assistant coach his first four years at Dodge City. Coming to Dodge City he brought coaching experience at multiple levels along with collegiate cheer experience with him. In his first year as head coach for the spirit squad he guided the Conquistadors to a four-peat at the NCA Intermediate Small Coed Junior College national champions winning the title in comeback fashion in 2026. The team also won the intermediate small coed level Region 6 title and had two groups claim region titles in all-girl group and small coed group stunt. During his four years at Dodge City he has won four-straight Region VI Grand Champions titles with his teams winning each competition they competed in the first two years at the Region championships. He oversaw the Intermediate Small Coed Junior College team to three NCA National Championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025. He helped led the Conquistadors to a Advanced Small Coed Junior College NCA National Championship in 2024, along with runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2025, and a third place finish in 2023. In 2024 the Advanced team also finished second in the Grand Champion competition. Rojas has coached at all levels of cheerleading including all-star, high school, and collegiate and is a proven champion winning three NCA College championships with Texas A&M and Blinn College while coaching. He also has been a member of the NCA staff both college and traditional staff since 2010 helping instruct middle through high school teams across the country. Brett had the opportunity in 2016 to travel to Japan with the NCA and serve as an instructor for their Far East camp, helping run a four-day cheer camp for military kids. In college Rojas cheered at Blinn and Sam Houston State and won three NCA College championships. Rojas has two dogs, Bear and Nala that are basically his dog kids.

Royjeannae Ursin

2nd Year as Assistant Spirit Squad Coach (Cheer) Hometown: Houston, Texas College(s): Texas Southern University Royjeannae Ursin is in her second year as assistant spirit squad coach at Dodge City, joining the staff in August 2025. In her first year as assistant coach for the spirit squad she helped the Conquistadors to a four-peat at the NCA Intermediate Small Coed Junior College national champions winning the title in comeback fashion in 2026. The team also won the intermediate small coed level Region 6 title and had two groups claim region titles in all-girl group and small coed group stunt. Ursin comes to Dodge City after spending the last five years coaching cheer in Houston, Texas, in community programs. She founded her own international cheerleading recruiting company called Grow Cheer Recruitment, which has led to her traveling to Kingston, Jamaica, to judge their first worlds competition, while hosting classes to share and teach her knowledge of cheer. The Houston native has over 20+ years of cheerleading under her belt, including several years at the college level competing for Blinn College, Sam Houston State University, and Texas Southern University. She is a collegiate and All-Star NCA Champion, Cheersport Champion, and three-time All-American nominee. She earned her bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Texas Southern University.

Decovyn Gaines
Assistant Coach
1st Year as Assistant Spirit Squad Coach (Volunteer) Hometown: Houston, Texas College(s): Dodge City Community College Decovyn Gaines is in his first year as assistant spirit squad coach at Dodge City, joining the staff in April 2026. Gaines helps with the dance team as part of the spirit squad for the Conquistadors. Gaines has been coaching dance for several years in Texas and in Dodge City, where he has trained the youth in the community. Over the past year, he led a youth hip-hop competitive team in Dodge City, guiding them to multiple award-winning performances. The Houston native attended Dodge City CC from 2014-16, where he was part of the Conquistador dance team, while being involved in hip-hop dance and teaching youth in the community. He also spent time with the football team while at Dodge City. After his time at Dodge City CC, he continued his dance career back in Houston, where he trained and performed with the SoReal Dance Studio. Gaines competed in hip hop competitions for over eight years, earning three World of Dance championships.
