Daniel Ames

Head Coach

Ames, no stranger to Dominican University, served as an assistant coach with the Stars womens volleyball program for three seasons prior to building Dominican Universitys NCAA Division III mens volleyball program for the 2014 season, the inaugural season of Division III mens volleyball on the universitys campus.  In one recruiting cycle, Ames recruited over 16 mens volleyball players to the River Forest campus and then guided the Stars to a berth in the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Tournament, earning CVC Co-Coach of the Year Honors. Under Ames, the Stars went 13-14 while scoring wins over NCAA Division III Top 25 Thiel College and Division II McKendree University.  Freshman setter Alex Coyne became the first player to earn all-conference honors for the Stars in the program's first year of existence.   During his tenure as a womens volleyball assistant from 2009 through 2011, the Stars made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Womens Volleyball Championships and won their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championship.   The owner of two volleyball clubs,  and , Ames has amassed an impressive resume at the club level, posting second and third place finishes at the  in 1999 and 2000 with the Sports Performance Volleyball Club as well as a second place finish at the  in 2004 with the 16-Mizuno and 18-Runbird boys teams.   In fact, while with Sports Performance Volleyball Club, the club became the first ever to two top five seeds in the same Boys Junior Olympics 18-Open Boys Tournament.

Doug Burchett

Assistant Coach

Burchett, a two-time Illinois High School Association state champion from Wheaton Warrenville South and 2010 graduate from the University of Illinois, joins head coach Dan Ames staff as an assistant coach with the Dominican University mens volleyball team for the 2015 season.   Burchett starred for the WWS Tigers from 2002 through 2005, earning all-conference honors from the DuPage Valley Conference four years in a row as he became the IHSA all-time leader in career assists.  Burchett then went on to play for the University of Illinois mens club volleyball team where he helped the Illini to a second place finish at the 2008 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) National Tournament and earned All-Big Ten honors in 2009 and 2010.   In addition to his standout playing career, Burchett possesses an abundance of coaching experience including spending the 2009 season with the University of Illinois womens volleyball team as an assistant coach.  That year the Illini placed second in the Big Ten and went all the way to the NCAA Division I Sweet 16 round.   After graduating from Illinois, Burchett joined the boys volleyball staff at Metea Valley High School as an assistant varsity coach.  Burchett worked primarily with the setters, helping to develop an all-state setter in 2014.

Jay Krick

Assistant Coach

Krick returns for his second season as an assistant with the Dominican University mens volleyball team after spending the 2010 season with the University of Florida Gators womens volleyball team. With the Gators, Krick was part of a program that spent eight weeks as the top ranked program in the country, going 29-2 on the year and 20-0 in SEC play to claim the 2010 SEC championship.  Krick primarily worked with the liberos and defensive specialists, focusing on defensive planning.  That season, the Gators led the SEC in team defense and ranked tenth nationally in blocks. Prior to joining the staff at the University of Florida, Krick spent the eight years as a physical education teacher and the head coach of the boys volleyball and wrestling teams at Stratford Middle School. Since 2002, he also has worked at Glenbard North High School, where he spent two seasons as the varsity boys volleyball coach and was the girls varsity coach from 2002-04 and again for the 2009-10 season. Krick has been involved with Floridas volleyball camps since the summer of 2006, and works with the Naperville Volleyball Club in Naperville. Krick worked as the head coach of the Boys 16-1 team that qualified for nationals in the open division in 2006 and competed in the club division in 2008, 2009 and 2010.  He also served on the Board of Directors for Naperville Volleyball Club. Krick, a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, worked with SportsMed Center for Fitness from 1999-2002. The Wheaton, Ill. native was also was the founder and player/coach of the Valparaiso University Mens Club Volleyball Team from 1996-1999. Krick holds a Bachelor of Arts in exercise science from Valparaiso in 1999 and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Administration from Concordia University of Chicago in 2004.
