Whithaus, who boasts 15 years of coaching on the mens side, enters his second season as an assistant coach with the womens golf program. Whithaus brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Blue Devils.  He was an associate head coach for the Duke mens golf program from 2009-12 and was the head coach of the Ohio Wesleyan mens golf program from 1997-2009.   Whithaus, who spent three years with the mens golf program at Duke, helped guide the Blue Devils to the NCAA Championship semifinals of match play and the East Region Championship in 2011.  Duke placed second overall in the ACC Championship in 2011 and collected three overall victories during the season.   In 2010-11, Whithaus helped direct the team to a tie for third at the ACC Championship and its sixth NCAA Championship appearance in the last eight seasons. Duke finished in the top five of eight tournaments with individuals registering 25 top 20 showings. Over the past three years, Whithaus worked as a coach, instructor and caddie in professional events on the European Tour, Asian Tour, Sunshine Tour and Challenge Tour.  He also created Elite Level Golf and founded The Nike Advanced Short Game Schools.  Whithaus started and operated numerous Nike Golf Camps across six different states as well. A seven-time North Coast Athletic Conference and five-time Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, Whithaus guided Ohio Wesleyan to 48 tournament victories, 11 NCAA Division III Championship appearances and seven top eight finishes in the NCAA Division III Championship.   He led the Bishops to 11 of 12 NCAA Division III Championship appearances with six top 10 finishes in the last eight trips. He also guided Ohio Wesleyan to eight NCAC championships in 10 years.  Whithaus coached one NCAA Division III individual champion, 16 All-America honorees, 11 All-America Scholars and 10 North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year winners. Whithaus was an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan for two seasons before taking over the head position. A Findlay, Ohio, native, Whithaus graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1991 with a degree in economic management. He was a two-time All-America Scholar and All-NCAC honoree, while earning three letters in golf during his Bishop career. He helped the Bishops to a string of four straight North Coast Athletic Conference titles and three straight top-three finishes in the NCAA Division III championship. Whithaus helped Ohio Wesleyan to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III championship as a sophomore, at the time the schools best-ever finish in the national tournament, and then helped the Bishops top that finish with a second-place tie in 1990. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Whithaus served as an assistant athletic director for facility management at Ohio Wesleyan for five years. He was also the director of the Central Ohio Golf Academy, a teaching professional at Oakhaven Golf Club and a committee member for the Gordin Collegiate Classic, one of the most prestigious Division III tournaments in the nation. Whithaus received his masters degree in sports and exercise education from The Ohio State University in 1997.  He and his wife, Beth, have three daughters Morgan, Audra and Ella.
