Steve Sakosits

Head Coach

Sakosits enters his seventh season as head baseball coach at Earlham in 2017. Sakosits is the programs all-time winningest coach having amassed 116 victories in six seasons at the helm. He has coached 38 All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) performers. The Quakers set a school record for wins in the NCAA era with 29 during the 2016 season. Earlham finished third in the HCAC with a 16-10 record and advanced to the HCAC Tournament championship round. Sakosits, also the pitching coach for the Quakers, mentored Walter Talcott to HCAC Freshman of the Year honors. Earlham broke eight single season records during the 2016 season at bats, home runs, runs scored, runs batted in, stolen bases, wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched. In addition, the Quakers led the HCAC in home runs, walks, stolen bases, slugging percentage, walks allowed, and earned run average. The Quakers tallied 26 wins in 2015, and qualified for the HCAC Tournament for the first time in school history after finishing fourth in the regular season with a 15-11 mark. Earlham led the league in triples, doubles, walks, and strikeouts per nine innings. Earlham posted a 21-18 record in 2014, which was the third most victories in school history at the time. It was also the first winning season for the Quakers since 1971. Earlham posted nine more wins than the Quakers had in 2013. Earlham also set several school records as a team in 2014. They led the HCAC and were in the top 50 in the nation in the following pitching statistics: least hits allowed (35th) runs, WHIP, hits/nine innings (35th), earned runs, ERA (48th) and opponents batting average. The Quakers ended the 2013 season with a five-game winning streak, while establishing new school team records in at-bats, hits, doubles, triples and homers. The Quakers a Rawlings All-Mid East Region Third Team performer for the first time in school history. With a 15-22 record in 2012, the Quakers posted the most victories in the NCAA era since 1987 at that time. A winning percentage of .405 was the best since 1971. The team established new Earlham single-season pitching records in ERA, saves, hits allowed and runs allowed, strikeouts and opponents batting average. Sakosits served as an assistant coach for the Quakers from 2008-10. Before coming to Earlham, Sakosits served as an assistant coach at fellow HCAC member Defiance College. At Defiance, he served as interim head coach while coaching 10 All-HCAC performances. A four-year letterwinner for Xavier, Sakosits ended his career ranked fourth all-time among Muskateer pitchers in appearances and saves. Sakosits earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Xavier and a master's degree from Defiance. He resides in Richmond.

Brandon Pennington

Assistant Coach

Pennington is in his seventh year as an assistant coach with the Earlham College baseball program, after serving as the mentor at Cambridge City Lincoln for 10 years. Lincoln was ranked No. 1 in Indiana (2A) during 2010, while the Golden Eagles posted a school record 22 victories. Pennington was named the Co-Coach of the year by the Indiana Baseball Coaches Association for District H. In his 10 seasons at Lincoln, the Golden Eagles won 129 games, while winning a pair of Tri-Eastern Conference championships, two Wapahani Invitational championships and an Eastern Indiana Invitational championship. Pennington is a 1996 graduate of Lincoln. He graduated with honors from Ball State University earning a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in 2000. As a player in high school, Pennington was a 3-year letter winner at Lincoln. He was a starter on the 1994 team that won the TEC title and Lincolns only baseball sectional championship. He was All-TEC in 1996.
