Elgin Community College Men's Baseball

Angelo enters his 28th year at the helm of the baseball program in the 2024 season. He has brought a sense of pride to the program, building a winning tradition at Elgin where the Spartans have been to the NJCAA DII World Series five times with a .586 career winning percentage and over 800 wins. His teams have also won eight Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) championships, six Region IV titles, and five District championships. Coach Angelo received the 2002 and 2003 Skyway Conference Men's Sports Coach of the Year Award. He is a six-time Region 4 Coach of the Year and has been named the District Coach of the Year five times. He has also been inducted into both the Region 4 and ISCC Hall of Fame. Under his leadership, more than 120 players have moved on to compete at the university and four-year college level, including 20 All-Americans and 10 drafted with several others signing free agent contracts into professional baseball. Coach Angelo brings enthusiasm to the field every day and believes hard work and passion are the foundation for success.  He expects his team to not only be good baseball players, but also be high character people. Coach Angelo also serves as the colleges Athletic Coordinator where he handles the schools athletic eligibility and compliance with the NJCAA.  Prior to being named head coach in 1998, he was an assistant coach of the Spartans for three years. Coach Angelo also played for ECC and was named Second Team All-Conference in 1990 and First Team All-Conference Catcher and Team MVP in 1991. He finished his playing career at Benedictine University where he earned his bachelor's degree in psychology. Angelo resides in Elburn, Ill. with his wife, Diane, and three children.

Hello Everyone!  My name is Steven de la Torriente. I am currently the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Elgin Community College. Out of high school I played for two years, under coach Bill Angelo, at ECC. In my time there I lead our team in appearances on the mound as well as lead the conference with an era of .47 which helped me earn a spot on the all-conference team, and ultimate helped the Spartans win their first region championship in nearly 10 years. After my two years at ECC I had the privilege of transferring and continuing my baseball career at Webster University. In my one year with Webster I was lucky enough to help the team to a college World Series appearance. Unfortunately my career was cut short due to a pair of back injuries. Thats when I turned to coaching. Over the past three seasons I have coached for ECC, the 17u and 18u Triboh teams, and the 17u Force Elite team. Throughout my time with ECC, Triboh, and Force Elite I was able to help several players get recruited while also winning numuerous tournaments.
