John Baines

Assistant Coach

Baines is working with the Elmhurst men's golf team for the third consecutive year. After serving as the team's head coach in 2014-15, Baines will work as an assistant coach for the second straight season.  Baines previously served as the head women's golf coach at Elmhurst and was also an assistant women's golf coach at the University of St. Francis., Baines spent 10 seasons at Elmhurst as an assistant basketball coach, while he also was coaching the women's golf team (2003-06) and the men's tennis team (2000-04). He left Elmhurst in 2010 to become the head men's basketball coach at University of St. Francis. While at St. Francis, Baines also served as an assistant coach to the women's golf team, helping the team finish 33rd in the final NAIA poll. The squad brought home the team title at the 2011 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Fall Classic. Baines returned to Elmhurst in 2013 to become the head men's basketball coach and also assisted the women's golf team in 2014.  Baines recently completed his third season as the head men's basketball coach at Elmhurst, guiding the 2015-16 team to a 22-7 overall record and a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. It marked the first time in school history the team posted consecutive 20-win seasons and advanced in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.  In just his second season with the men's basketball team in 2014-15, Baines led the squad to a 20-8 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Baines was named as the Illinois Basketball Coaches Associaition's Division III Co-Coach of the Year. In just three years as the Bluejays' head coach, Baines has compiled a 56-26 overall record.  Baines returned to Elmhurst after three years as the head men's basketball coach at the University of St. Francis where he compiled a 57-38 overall record and coached six all-conference performers and two all-Americans. Baines played college basketball at Illinois Wesleyan University and was a part of teams that compiled a 103-14 record, played in the NCAA Tournament four times, reached the Final Four twice and won a national championship in 1997. Baines earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Illinois Wesleyan in 1998. He received a master's degree in sports administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003. He and his wife, Emily, reside in Chicago with their daughter, Sloane.

Chris Martin

Coach

Martin will be serving his first season as the head coach of the Elmhurst men's golf team during the 2016-16 season. Martin served as the team's assistant coach during the 2014-15 season.  Martin has spent the past four seasons as an assistant men's basketball coach at Elmhurst. A former standout basketball player at Elmhurst, Martin spent three seasons playing professional basketball in Luxembourg and Germany, earning first-team all-league distinction all three years. He spent a year as head coach of the Bayer Leverkusen Giants in the Professional B League in Germany and helped guide the team to the playoffs. Martin completed a stellar four-year career at Elmhurst during the 2005-06 season. He closed out his career as a two-time All-American earning fourth-team honors in 2005 and third-team recognition in 2006. He became the first player in Elmhurst history to earn first-team all-conference honors on three occasions and is just the second player in school history to garner all-conference honors in each of his four seasons. He finished his career with 1,736 points (second all-time), 825 rebounds (fourth all-time), 366 assists (third all-time), and 249 steals (career leader in steals).  He is the only player in school history to finish in the top five in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. He was inducted into the College's Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame in 2011. Martin earned his bachelor's degree from Elmhurst in 2005 and is completing a master's degree from Roosevelt University. Martin, and his wife, Haley, reside in Elmhurst with their daughter, Riley, and son, Camden.
