Mark Morrell

Coach

Morrell is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team. Last season, Morrell guided Elmhurst to a 7-9 overall record and its second straight trip to the CCIW Tournament. Four Bluejays earned all-conference honors with Mac Harden and Eric Langston receiving first-team honors and Nick Bonastia and Kalani Flowers taking home second-team accolades. Harden was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year.  In 2015, the Bluejays finished 7-9 overall and scored a trip to the first-ever CCIW Tournament. Four Bluejays earned all-conference accolades in 2014 including Jackson Mandli on the first-team and Brandon Bethran, Kalani Flowers and Nick Klenck on the second-team. In just their second season as a varsity sport in 2013, Morrell led Elmhurst to an 8-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. The Bluejays won their final three games of the season, including a thrilling come-from-behind win over Augustana in the season finale when the team scored three times in less than a minute to force overtime. The Bluejays improved by four games from the previous season, ranking them among the nation's leaders in improvement. Drew Wassenaar was named the league's Rookie of the Year while Jack Albertini and Kalani Flowers also earned all-conference accolades.  Morrell has compiled a 26-36 overall record in four seasons.  A former assistant coach at Wittenberg, Morrell guided Elmhurst to a 4-10 overall record in the team's debut season in 2013. Freshmen defender Jack Albertini was named to the Midwest Lacrosse Conference's honorable mention all-conference list. Morrell spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Wittenberg. While at Wittenberg, he served as the Tigers' defensive coordinator while also assisting with face-offs and recruiting. In Morrell's time as an assistant coach, Wittenberg won back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference championships and earned consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011. The Tigers finished the 2001 season ranked 15th in the nation and enjoyed four straight seasons with a winning record. As a defensive coach, Morrell's 2010 and 2011 Wittenberg squads ranked among the national leaders in goals against average. He also coached a pair of players who earned all-America honors, the first players in Wittenberg lacrosse history to achieve the honors. Morrell joined the Wittenberg coaching staff after a four-year playing career at Wittenberg. A defender for the Tigers, he totaled 89 ground balls and a career face-off percentage of .540. Morrell earned a bachelor's degree from Wittenberg and is completing his master's degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He and his wife, Kelsi, reside in Elmhurst.
