Tom Antenucci

Assistant Coach

Antenucci is entering his fourth year as Head Cross Country Coach/Facility Operations Coordinator at Emory & Henry College. Hired on April 23, 2012, he became the first full-time head coach in program history, and will also oversee the operations of the John Rutledge King Center. In his third season, Antenucci made great strides with both the men's and women's teams. Despite being picked eighth in the preseason poll, the men's team finished fifth in the ODAC championship, which is their highest finish ever.  The women's team was picked last in the conference, but ended up finishing seventh. That mark was also the highest for the team. In his first two seasons at the helm of the Wasps, Antenucci has implemented a recruiting philosophy which is bringing high-caliber runners to E&H that will help both programs move up the rungs of the ODAC ladder. Antenucci comes to Emory & Henry from Abingdon High School, where he has served as Head Track & Field and Co-Head Cross Country Coach since March of 2008. During his time with the Falcons, he has coached the boys to a combined seven-straight cross country and track & field district championships and has won the girls cross country district title three years in a row. Last fall, the Abingdon High School Boys Cross Country Team finished sixth at the Virginia High School League AA Championship, its best finish in 20 years. He has coached four national qualifiers, 16 all-state, 84 all-region and nearly 150 all-district athletes in only four seasons. During this time, 10 school records have also been set. Prior to joining the high school coaching ranks, Antenucci was the co-founder and coach of Team Blitz Running Club, a group based at The College of William & Mary. He was responsible for helping design workouts for the team which won the team competition at the Shamrock Marathon in three consecutive seasons. A decorated runner in his own right, Antenucci notched a fourth-place finish at the 2006 Shamrock Marathon, completing the course in 2:33.29. Antenucci graduated in 2007 from W&M with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in kinesiology/exercise science, and also competed as a Division I-level athlete for the Tribe. He completed his Master of Arts in American History at East Tennessee State University in 2011. As an athlete at Abingdon High School, Antenucci was a five-time all-state runner and won the state championship in the 3200-meter run as a senior. Antenucci currently resides in Bristol, Va.   -5/20/15
