Jodi Cipolla

Head Coach

Cipolla found that she had a passion for teaching, player development, and promoting life lessons through athletic participation early in her career.  At Endicott, Cipolla is able to use those passions towards her own program and the student-athletes that undoubtedly benefit from them.   I love my job, says Cipolla, who is in her tenth year at the helm of the Gulls' field hockey program in the 2016-17 season.  I hope to create an environment for my players that is comfortable, yet challenging.  Balancing fun with hard work is really important to me, especially at this level.   The comfort, Cipolla says, comes from an open door communication policy that invites conversation off the field.  I do individual meetings three times per year in order to check in, evaluate performance and outcomes, speak about academics, and any other issues that come up. On the field, the physical challenges differ from day-to-day in terms of game preparation, skill development, maintenance, and fitness depending on the time of season.   In the beginning of the season, my assistant coaches and I set benchmarks for different parts of the season and plan where we want the team in specific areas by those specific points.  We then tailor practices on a weekly basis, but depending on the given situation that may change on a daily basis in terms of skill mastery, change in personnel, or any other issues that may arise.   The challenge is not just in the physical demands of preseason workouts, in-season practice, game day competition, and off-season training but also in terms of team camaraderie, an area of focus each and every year for Cipollas team.  We try to build in team activities every day to promote cohesion and chemistry.  My assistant coaches and I want to create a culture, a pattern of behavior that will lead to maximum performance, a sense of pride, and respect for what the Endicott field hockey program stands for. Leadership, however, wont just come from the coaching staff.   This team will be led by a core of seniors with a junior class that has been the backbone of our team for the past two seasons.  We have some young players who are ready to make an impact as leaders and as solid statistical contributors.  It is an exciting time to be a part of the field hockey program at Endicott as the team competed in the conference championship in four of the past five years and made two NCAA Tournament appearances. The team is 126-79 (.615) overall in 10 seasons under Cipolla with an even more impressive 73-27 (.730) mark in Commonwealth Coast Conference games. Cipolla was named CCC Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2012 and has coached 50 All-Conference, 51 Academic All-Conference, and 22 All-Region players during her tenure at Endicott thus far.  Page last updated: 11/03/16
