Jay Halbrook

Head Coach

Halbrook takes over for Jerry Breaux, who resigned after 22 seasons as head coach to take over as head softball coach and assistant athletic director at Louisiana State-Alexandria. Halbrook has been head softball coach for Star and Stripes All-American squad, a 16-and-under club team that featured players from five states. He spent five seasons as Bolivar High School's head softball coach compiling a 110-63 record. His teams won five Central Ozark Conference championships, two district championships and had one state quarterfinal appearance. His arrival to Evangel will mark a return to the Crusaders coaching staff as he served the baseball program as an assistant coach from 2002 to 2006. Halbrook spent two years as an assistant softball coach at Southwest Baptist and was an assistant at Bolivar High School from 2006 to 2008. He founded Bolivar's club softball squad in 2005 and served as their head coach from 2005 to 2012. In addition to his stint at Evangel, Halbrook has coached baseball in Aruba and was the varsity head baseball coach for the Bolivar American Legion program compiling a 170-85 record. Halbrook has a degree in Psychology from Southwest Baptist University. Jay Halbrook resides in Pleasant Hope with his wife Jamie, a payroll administrator at Evangel. The couple has four daughters. Jordan Henson (married), Jaelyn, Jenna and Jianna. Jessica Nutt will be in her first year with Evangel University in 2016 serving as assistant softball coach. Nutt was previously the head coach at Weableau High School for two years and is the head coach for GameFace elite, an under-16 summer travel team. She played collegiately at Hannibal-LaGrange University where she earned four varsity letters and was a member of the American Midwest Conference's All-Academic team. Nutt graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange in 2011 with a degree in Physical Education and she has a Master's degree in Athletic Administration from Southwest Baptist University. Charlie Getty has worked with Evangel University athletes for 12 years arriving as a football assistant coach in 2002. He is currently an instructor of exercise science in the Kinesiology Department and continues his work with Evangel softball in 2015. Getty played 10 seasons in the National Football League including nine for the Kansas City Chiefs and one with the Green Bay Packers as an offensive lineman. He was the Chiefs second round draft pick in 1974 and was named to the NFL All-Rookie season in the same year. He was named an All-American by UPI and the AP while he played collegiately at Penn State and was a National NCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee in 1974. He holds degrees from Penn State and Webster University and in 2006 earned certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Originally from Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, he has been married to his wife Carol for 40 years. Their daughter Samantha is an Evangel graduate and resides with her husband in St. Louis.
