Hal Wynn

Head Coach

Wynn has worked for the university for the past 32 years and has piloted the softball program since its inaugural season in 1992. Under his leadership Faulkner has posted winning records in 14 of the last 20 seasons and has recorded at least 25 wins in all but six seasons. The program has also accumulated 30 or more wins nine times. The Lady Eagles earned bids to the NAIA Region XIII tournament in 12 of the last 13 seasons it was held.  The team finished the 2016 season with a record of 21-23 overall and was 9-11 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.  Wynn is on the cusp of claiming his 700th career victory. The programs overall record currently sits at 670-579-2. The coach was honored with a surprise ceremony before a home series in 2010 where the Faulkner Softball Complex was renamed Wynn Field. The success of Wynn's teams hasn't been restricted to the field. He has always placed a major emphasis on academics and has seen many of his student-athletes selected to a variety of conference, regional and national all-academic teams. In addition to his role as the softball coach, Wynn is entering his second year as athletic director after spending 10 years as the associate athletic director where his primary focus was NAIA compliance and student-athlete eligibility.  Wynn was a standout middle infielder for the baseball team at what was then Alabama Christian College - now Faulkner University - where he graduated in 1978. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Troy State University in 1980.  Originally from Brundidge, Ala., he and his wife Rhea have a son, James, and daughter, Jacqui, who currently serves as a student assistant for the Lady Eagles. The Wynns welcomed their first grandson, Easton Tucker, in November of 2014. The Wynns are active members of Dalraida Church of Christ. Gary Gregory is entering his eighth season overall as an assistant coach for the Lady Eagles. After spending six seasons as an assistant for the softball program and leading the Bama Bombers travel ball team to a 16 youth fall national championship in October of 2014, Gregory took last spring off to spend time with family.  Gregory has been coaching softball for nearly two decades. Hes coached with the Bama Gold for  more than 18 years, and in that time led his teams to multiple appearances in the national tournament, including the 2014 fall national championship. He also coached softball at Wetumpka High School for 10 years, making multiple appearances in the state tournament. The Wetumpka native and his wife Darlene have a son Micah and a daughter Amber, who pitched for coach Wynn at Faulkner. The Gregorys have a 4-year-old granddaughter named Landry.
