Mike Rice
Head Coach
Updated: June 2024 Mike Rice became the head men's golf coach at Florida A&M University in 2018. Before becoming the head coach, Rice was an assistant coach since February 2013. In 2024, Rice brought home the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (HBCU National Championship) for the first time since he was a player in 2000 after the team won with an 891 (+27), winning by 29 strokes. Rice also coached the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship low medalist Marcus Taylor. Taylor became the ninth Rattler to win the individual event. The golf team also finished second in the SWAC Championship. In 2021, Rice led the Rattlers to its first MEAC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history. The Rattlers won the MEAC Championship with a 755 (+35), winning by 19 strokes. Rice coached four of the top five players in the final APGA Poll, including the number one player Mulbe Dillard. Rice, a native of Apopka, Fla., was a former golfer at FAMU. Rice was a three-time National Minority All-American (1998-2000) and team captain in 2000. In addition, Rice was part of the 2000 team that won the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship and was the low medalist of the event with a 208. Before FAMU, Rice worked as a supervisor for golf operations at the Jake Gaither golf course from 2002-2011. Rice graduated from FAMU with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2002. Rice is married to Regina Rice, and they have two children, Morgan and Michael.

Marvin Green
Assistant Coach
Green, a FAMU alumnus, served FAMU for nearly 23 years as Director of Student Activities, Associate Director of Campus Recreation, and has played a leading role in the development and success of the Universitys nationally recognized intramural and recreational sports programs. During that time, he was instrumental in shaping and developing not only the Department of Campus Recreation on the campus of Florida A&M University (FAMU), but also the highly successful Mens Golf Program at the University, both of which have received notoriety on local, statewide and national levels. He will continue to serve as coach of FAMUs award-winning mens golf program, which has consistently finished in the top five at the National Minority Golf Championships. In July 2011, Green was selected as the Director of Student Activities for the University, overseeing programs, events and activities that foster experiences to complement FAMU students academic experiencesocially, culturally and emotionally. He is responsible for developing and implementing FAMUs flagship Freshman Pinning Ceremony to encourage first-year students to immediately engage in campus life and to be embraced into the Rattler family. In 2012, Green spearheaded the establishment of the Rattler First Program, a weekly seminar series that served to educate students who desire to become part of certified campus clubs and organizations on the various topics that will foster their success individually, as well as the success of the organization. The program also complements the Universitys focus on students graduating within four years. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Green graduated from Hyde Park Career Academy, and then attended Florida A&M Universitys School of Business & Industry (SBI), majoring in business administration. While in college, he was active in several groups and organizations including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); the Upsilon Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., for which he also was elected 2 Vice District Representative and 2 Vice State Representative; the Pan-Hellenic Council, for which he served as president; and FAMU Student Government Association (SGA), where he served as special assistant to the Vice President of SGA. After completing his masters degree in sports and leisure management at FAMU, he became an adjunct professor at the University, teaching introductory and intermediate golf courses. In 2001, Green became the head coach for the Mens Golf Program, a position he has held ever since. During his tenure, FAMU has finished in the top 5 at the National Minority Golf Championships held each year in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and has produced two first place individual medalists at the tournament. In addition, Green was featured on HBOs Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel in 2002, an appearance that was seen by millions of people across the country and abroad, and led to appearances on sports radio talk shows to discuss the same topic. In 2002, he met and became of student of Don Trahan, Master PGA Professional and father of D.J. Trahan (currently on the PGA Tour), and became the first college golf instructor in the country to earn the Golf Teacher/College Golf Coaching Certification from Trahans Swing Surgeon Group, Inc. Two years later, Green completed the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males at its headquarters in Indianapolis; also, he is a Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS), and a graduate of the School of Recreational Sports Management and the Recreational Facilities Symposium, both attained through NIRSA. Additionally, for the past 14 years, Green has coached the FAMU Womens Flag Football Team Simply Marvelous; this nationally recognized team has won 10 National Championships for both the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and American College Intramural Sports (ACIS). Marvin served as President of the National Black Golf Coaches Association and holds memberships in the NIRSA, J.R.E. Lee, Sr. Masonic Lodge #422, Ahmed Temple #37 Shriners, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and is a Life Members of the FAMU National Alumni Association (FAMU NAA); he also is a past advisor for the Pan-Hellenic Council and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., both at FAMU. Marvin and his wife, Cecka Rose (also a FAMU alum), have three children: Marhee, 14 , Chaela, 12, and Marvin III (Tre), 9.
