Chris Saltmarsh

Head Coach

Saltmarshs five seasons. Up until that point, the squad had qualified only once in the programs history. The womens team received its third-ever invite in the spring. In addition. freshman Gaelen Trew became Florida Tech's very first men's golfer to individually qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2015. Under Saltmarsh's guidance, Trew fired an even-par 216 at the regional tournament to edge out West Georgia's Kevin Clarke in a sudden-death playoff.    That same season, women's golfer Guro Rambjoer clinched a berth at the NCAA Division II National Championships, as the team collectively attained its highest ever national ranking at No. 1 in the Golfstat poll. In 2013-14, freshman Johanna Larsson became just the second Panther to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships. On the men's side, Florida Tech picked up two victories, which matched the program record for a single season. The golf program also took in a tremendous awards haul as four Panthers were named All-Americans. Larsson was even named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, and the WGCA Division II Womens Freshman of the Year, matching a program record with three individual championships. Overall, the Panthers have won a total of 15 tournaments, five on the mens side and 10 on the womens, during Saltmarshs tenure. Before arriving in Melbourne, he was the head mens and womens golf coach at Northwood University of the NAIA for four seasons. He steered the Seahawks mens team to a National Championship berth in 2009, finishing 21st overall after claiming The Sun Conference (TSC) Championship earlier that spring. Also in 2009, he was named TSC Coach of the Year, fielded the leagues individual champion, and coached two all-conference and one third team All-America player. The program ranked as high as 20th in the Golfstat standings and broke the programs team scoring record (300.75). With an NAIA rating as high as fourth, Saltmarshs womens team earned two straight National Championship at-large invitations for Northwood, finishing 16th in 2009 and 10th in the NAIA tournament last spring. His squad also broke the schools scoring average in 2010 (324.14).  Prior to his stint at Northwood, he spent one season as the head coach of the Tiffin University womens golf team, guiding the program from NAIA to Division II status. He also served as a graduate assistant coach for the mens and womens teams at Walsh University where he helped lead the men to an 86-25-2 overall record in the two-year span and assisted in guiding the women to a second-place finish at both the conference and regional tournaments in 2006. Saltmarsh earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Walsh University in business management where he was also a four-year letterman for the Cavaliers. The two-time NAIA All-American put together a 74.3 career stroke average and was an all-conference member all four years, finishing as the conferences Player of the Year in 2002. He was also the top-ranked NAIA player and ranked 25th in college golf his senior year, according to GolfStat. He will be inducted into the institution's Wall of Fame on Oct. 4, 2013. Saltmarsh still plays golf as an amateur and is a two-time Eastern Ohio Amateur Champion.

Elrick van Eck

Assistant Coach

van Eck Assistant Coach Elrick van Eck completed his third year as the assistant coach of the Panthers' men's and women's golf teams in 2015-16 after originally joining the Florida Tech family in April 2013. Throughout van Eck's stint, both programs have secured a combined five NCAA Division II Regional Championship berths, including three straight on the women's side. In 2014-15, van Eck worked closely with freshman Gaelen Trew, who became Florida Tech's very first men's golfer to individually qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship after edging out West Georgia's Kevin Clarke in a sudden-death playoff at the regional tournament. Van Eck, who is from Pretoria, South Africa, was a former collegiate golfer at Shorter University and Northwood University, and has won numerous junior college and amateur events throughout his career. During his freshman season in 2007-08 at Shorter, van Eck was named Third Team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He also earned all-region and all-conference honors in the same year. In the fall of 2010, he arrived at Northwood and played golf for three semesters before graduating in December 2011. He was selected to the all-region and all-conference teams following his junior campaign. During his senior season at Northwood, van Eck was ranked in the Top-25 on Golfstat Cup for all collegiate levels NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. He was also awarded Northwoods Athletic Leadership Award in his senior season and holds the record for the lowest single-round score for mens golf at Northwood, posting a 65 in 2011. Prior to his collegiate career, van Eck cracked the Top-30 in the South African amateur rankings, and was ranked sixth in the nation by the end of his junior career. He also represented his South African province, playing as one of eight golfers for Gauteng North on both the junior level and under-23 teams. He played on the under-23 team in 2006 and 2007, captaining in his last year.
