Pete Mazzone

Head Coach

Pete Mazzone is the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Equipment and the Associate Head Coach for Cross Country, Indoor/Outdoor Track, focusing on long distance.   Mazzone has been an active member of the Florida Tech athletic department for the past 37 years. Over his tenure at Florida Tech, Mazzone has held numerous positions, including Assistant Athletic Director, Intramural Director, Strength Coach, Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach, Associate Athletic Director, and Interim Athletic Director. Taking back the reins of the men's cross country and track programs in 2024-25, Mazzone guided both teams to a fifth-place finish at the SSC Championships. He coached the program's fourth SSC Cross Country Freshman of the Year in Ben Peck, who finished ninth in the conference meet, the best finish among all freshmen. Mazzone was at the helm for the inaugural SSC Outdoor Track meet From 2011 to 2015, Mazzone also served as the first Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams, two programs he helped establish at Florida Tech. In 1998, the men's team finished second, and the women's team finished fourth in the SSC. For this, he was named the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in three years.   He became the Assistant Athletic Director at Florida Tech in 1985 and then the Head Coach for the Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country teams seven years later in 1992.   Mazzone has produced over 70 cross-country all-conference selections, six NCAA Individual qualifiers and led the 2012 men’s program to an NCAA Championship appearance.   Mazzone received his bachelor's degree in physical education at Frostburg State (Maryland) in 1978 and his master's degree in exercise science at the University of Central Florida in 1989. He lives with his wife Barbara in West Melbourne, Florida and is the father on Florida Tech alum Cristina Mazzone (Chavarriaga).
