Assistant Coach
van Eck Assistant Coach Elrick van Eck completed his third year as the assistant coach of the Panthers' men's and women's golf teams in 2015-16 after originally joining the Florida Tech family in April 2013. Throughout van Eck's stint, both programs have secured a combined five NCAA Division II Regional Championship berths, including three straight on the women's side. In 2014-15, van Eck worked closely with freshman Gaelen Trew, who became Florida Tech's very first men's golfer to individually qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship after edging out West Georgia's Kevin Clarke in a sudden-death playoff at the regional tournament. Van Eck, who is from Pretoria, South Africa, was a former collegiate golfer at Shorter University and Northwood University, and has won numerous junior college and amateur events throughout his career. During his freshman season in 2007-08 at Shorter, van Eck was named Third Team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He also earned all-region and all-conference honors in the same year. In the fall of 2010, he arrived at Northwood and played golf for three semesters before graduating in December 2011. He was selected to the all-region and all-conference teams following his junior campaign. During his senior season at Northwood, van Eck was ranked in the Top-25 on Golfstat Cup for all collegiate levels NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. He was also awarded Northwoods Athletic Leadership Award in his senior season and holds the record for the lowest single-round score for mens golf at Northwood, posting a 65 in 2011. Prior to his collegiate career, van Eck cracked the Top-30 in the South African amateur rankings, and was ranked sixth in the nation by the end of his junior career. He also represented his South African province, playing as one of eight golfers for Gauteng North on both the junior level and under-23 teams. He played on the under-23 team in 2006 and 2007, captaining in his last year.
