Bill Macom

Head Coach

Macom was voted the 2015 United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Florida College Coach of the Year after his mens and womens teams finished last spring ranked ninth and 10th in the South region and 37th and 44th in the nation, respectively. The Panther men registered a 13-10 record and 3.2 gpa and the women garnered a 14-10 record and 3.6 gpa. The men and women were both recognized as 2015 ITA All-Academic Teams, the 5th consecutive year for the womens team earned the honor. Both programs have won Florida Techs Team GPA Award multiple times. In 2015, Ricardo Corona was named to the Second Team All-SSC Singles team after he registered a 17-3 singles record in the spring dual season in which he went 4-1 vs. conference opponents as a freshmen. On the womens side, Macom coached junior Natasa Vukovic to 44th in the nation in singles. Macom has been recognized for his teams success, both on the court and with the Aces for Autism program, which he developed. In May 2013, he received his second USPTA College Coach of the Year Award for the Florida Division. He was also chosen as the sectional winner of the 2011 USPTA/ITA Campus and Community Outreach Award for the second time in his career. He was named the USPTA/Florida-Melbourne District Tennis Professional of the Year in 2009 and the USPTA National College Coach of the Year in 2008. Although he didnt receive the award, the FIT mens and womens tennis teams won the inaugural Champions Cup for their involvement with the CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success)/Life Skills Program in May 2011. Currently, he is a member of the NCAA Division II Mens Regional Advisory Committee and the ITA South Region Mens and Womens Ranking Committee. He also serves as the Sunshine State Conference representative on the NCAA Tennis Coaches Council. Macom came to Florida Tech from Division I Jacksonville University, where he coached from 1994-2000 under the title of director of mens and womens tennis. While at Jacksonville, he became the womens tennis teams career victory leader and ranked second on the mens victory list. Both programs attained national team rankings and numerous student athletes achieved individual academic and athletic honors during his tenure. He also held the position of adjust professor and the coordinator of alumni and parent relations. He spent several season as a tennis professional in the Tampa area before his arrival to Florida Tech. He became a community leader by volunteering his time with the Rules and Regulations Committee for the USTA Florida League Tennis Council, sitting as the Hillsborough County District Representative for USTA Florida. He was also the local junior team tennis league coordinator for District 11. He was the director of tennis at Hunters Green Country Club, a teaching pro at the Harbour Island Athletic Club, the junior tennis coordinator for Northdale Golf and Tennis Club and a head professional for the Tennis Connection. He was also a teaching pro at the Center Court Tennis Club in Chatham, NJ and at Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Macom was also a USTA Zonal Coach for Team Floridas 14 and under team in 2007 and 12 and under team in 2014. His playing experiences include a 2012 ITF ranking of 628 in the mens 35 and over Division, a 2003 Florida ranking of eight in the mens 35s, a 2002 Florida ranking of two in the mens 30 and over division, a 2002 USPTA Florida top five ranking in the mens open division and a 1999 national ranking of 8 in the mens 25 and over division. He played collegiately at Jacksonville University in Florida.  Born and raised in Bay Had and Bridgewater, New Jersey, Macom comes from a large family of tennis players. Both of his parents were tennis enthusiasts and three of his siblings played Division I tennis. His father, Morgan was a nationally ranked player in several age divisions. His brother, John, has produced musical scores for tennis events all over the world. Macom and his wife, Allie, have three children: Billy, Krystal, and Channen.

Ken Obermeier

Assistant Coach

Obermeier was named the South Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intecollegiate Tennis Association. He helped the Panther men achieve a 37th national ranking, ninth in the south region. The FIT women ended the year ranked 10th in the south region and 42nd in the nation. Obermeier has sent over 250 players to the NCAA Division I, II and III levels, with over 90 percent receiving scholarships. He has also helped several top 50 ranked Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and Womens Tennis Association (WTA) players, including junior and tour players in each of the grand slams. Obermeier is a United States Tennis Association (USTA) High Performance Coach, a United States Professional Tennis Association Specialist in Competitive Player Development and a USTA Competition Training Center Director of Coaching. Obermeier is also a United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR)/United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Elite Professional and has been a lead sectional coach for three USTA sections Florida, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. Obermeier previously held the position of tennis manager at Genesys Athletic Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He was responsible for all tennis center operations at the 6,000-member facility. He also developed four players into the top 100 of the USTA under-14 national rankings. Before moving to Michigan, Obermeier spent over 11 years in Florida. For six years, he worked at the RDV Sportsplex in Orlando, first as the head tennis professional and then the director of tennis. He then moved on to Palm Coast, Florida where he was the tournament director for the USTA Palm Coast Mens Futures Championships and then the tennis superintendent for the City of Palm Coast. As the tennis superintendent for the city, the Palm Coast Tennis Center was chosen 2010 USTA Small Public Facility of the Year. His professional career started in 1992 as the director of junior tennis and sports fitness specialist for the Potomac Tennis and Fitness Club in Potomac, Maryland. Obermeier graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in exercise science.
